That's a good question. Since we don't yet have a deal on the 23FB, we haven't settled on this important issue. We have talked about Lucy II or Lucille.

We also love the 23' trailer as it lets us squeeze into a lot of tight Vermont state park campsites. Got to say though, if it wasn't for that - I'd probably own a 25FB.

Tom
Thank you so much for this information. I will check out the etrailer site.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our 25FB for these past eight years (1,380 nights/115,000 miles). We have gotten to the point of wear and tear on Lucy that she needs some major renovation. This has brought us to the point of considering a replacement. We liked the idea of going 26" shorter, 6" narrower, and 1,500# lighter.

We spent a couple of hours sitting in two 23FB's, a brand new 2013, and a barely used 2012. At first, SuEllyn and I each sat in a different one for about a half hour. We did this so that each of us could asses the layout without influencing the other. We then sat together in one 23FB and seriously discussed the pros and cons.

Since we had Lucy with us on this visit to the Airstream dealer, we decided to have Lucy assessed for a trade, and have them give us a price for both the 2012 and the 2013 23FB's.

We spent the rest of the 200 miles home discussing going to a 23FB. The next day, the dealer emailed us figures on the two 23FB's and our 2005 25FB as a trade. We decided to take a run at the slightly used 2012 23FB. The price that the dealer quoted was pretty good, but not quite good enough to pull the trigger. We made a counteroffer, and are waiting to hear back.

Today will probably tell the tale.

The longer you can wait into the fall season, the better the deal will probably be. We got an excellent deal when we bought our 23' 2007 Safari on the day before Thanksgiving!

Hi Bill. Thanks for the tip. The 23FB that we have the offer in on now is a very slightly used 2012. We're committed to this offer if the dealer accepts it. If this deal falls through, we may well take your advice and wait a month or two and try to deal on a new 23FB.

Your 25 footer will be a great trailer for someone. You made some mods that we copied in ours when we owned it. Good luck. Let us know what happens and what you decide to modify in the new one if you buy it. Lucy II or Lucy Also? Jim

We will miss our dear Lucy if we end up going wit the 23FB, but it is time to either move on or do some serious renovation. The next few days will tell the tale.

We reached a deal today. We are now the soon to be owners of a 2012 23FB. We are trading in our beloved Old Lucy on the New Lucy. We have decided that the 23FB will be Lucy, and our faithful 25FB will be Old Lucy. We have placed a deposit but will not actually do the trade over in Gulfport, Mississippi, until the middle of November. We are heading over to Jacksonville tomorrow for SuEllyn's Dad's 96th Birthday. Then we need to visit friends in Hardeeville, South Carolina. The Old Lucy still has one more camping trip before she heads on to a new owner, We will spend almost 1,400 nights in Old Lucy before she moves on.

Congratulations! We also own a 2008 23Fb SE and it had been a great trailer. We also investigated getting Michelin 15" LTX ties but eventually replaced our 5 year old GYMs with another set. I did have Discount Tire check the fit of the 15" Michelins including spare holder And they said they could make it work.

We love our 23FB and only long for the 25FB when traveling with friends.

Enjoy!

The 25FB has been a great floor plan. We are hopeful that the 23FB will also work work well for our style of Airstreaming. We don't often spend more than two nights at one place.

23' and 14 inch tires

Our Flying Cloud is the 2012 23' front sofa plan, just coming up on our 2 year anniversary. A road hazard induced failure on one of the GYMs forced me to do do some searching for replacements, with the main concerns on the GYMs being the ST rating and C load range. Our use is monthly weekend trips less than 300 mi R/T and one 2000 mile R/T to FL beaches for a week in the summer. If we were fulltime and/or more longer trips might be worth the 15 inch upgrade but decided to stay with the 14s for now.

I found that not all tires that the makers show on their websites end up being actually in the USA for sale. At this point I put a 205R14 Kumho Radial 857 on my spare steel wheel with the GYMs still on the ground. This is a commercial truck/transporter/trailer tire. In January I plan to order 4 more and a Dill TPMS system to install. Specs on the 14inch Kumho include a diameter 27.0 and 8 ply load range D at 2150# @65psi. GYM 215/75R14 has a diameter 26.6 with load range C at 1870#@50psi. I paid a local dealer $145 for one, but also have found them about $20 each cheaper through Tire Rack. Perhaps another alternative for your consideration if you decide to stay with the 14s.

Please check my post and picture of the 3 year old GYM on 2010 28' Flying Cloud. It shows a flat spot on the street side rear tire. Both Discount and Goodyear tire folks agreed that was an indication of a belt separation.

Not wanting to risk an expensive blow out repair I ordered 16" Sendels and Michelin tires to replace the stock 15" wheels and GYM tires. I really recommend upgrading to Michelins even if you remain with with 14" wheels!

Thank you for this information, Mark. I am looking at all of the tire options for the new 2012 23FB. The trailer that I am buying has been very lightly used. It has made two round trips between the Florida Panhandle and North Carolina. I am guessing that it has been towed about 1,000 miles.

I will use the OEM Marathons for a while and watch them carefully. I am somewhat gun shy of the Marathons based upon my bad experience with the marathons that came new on my 25FB.

I have been digesting all of the tire information for the 23FB. I have done some research and pricing and have come up with some figures. It looks like I can get a 15" wheel/tire package with the Michelin LTX for around $1,300 for all five. On the other hand, I can stay with a premium 14" ST for around $550 for a set of four.

Based upon our past experience with the 25FB, the 16" LTX Michelins have outlasted three sets of 15" ST tires, one set of Marathons and two sets of Maxxis. I would have been money ahead, and had much less aggravation, had I gone with the LT tires at the outset. We tow our Airstream between 15 and 20 thousand miles per year.
