Ducted Air in the FC 23FB

Hi Folks,

We are looking at a 23 foot FB FC and we see the 2016's come with ducted air. Just curious as to how well this works with the single AC unit. Do you get enough air in the bedroom?

We could go for a 2015 or earlier without ducted if it really doesn't work that well.

Also, does anyone know just how accessible these units are if repairs are needed?

Thanks!
Tom

I can tell you that it works great in our 2016 25' FC with a single AC unit. We get good air/heat in the bedroom because it is ducted.

We have a 2016 23FB with ducted air. Had a earlier 23FB without it too so I can give you a comparison. It takes a little longer for the unit to cool the trailer down when it's first turned on after traveling in the heat. Not a big deal really. Once it gets cranking it does a much better job of keeping the trailer temp balanced and comfortable. And the big thing is it does all that without that roar we had in our previous 23FB. You can carry a conversation and watch TV now. Get the ducted air. You won't be sorry and since all new Airstreams come with ducted air the ones without will lose some value IMO.

We have a new 2016 Pendleton coming in a couple of months so we are selling our brand new 2016 23FB. I made the mistake of taking the boss to look at the Pendleton and that was that! If your interested I have it listed in the classifieds on the forum here. I may keep it and let my kids and grandkids use it.

Funny how one can end up with two Airstreams...

There have been posts that suggested the duct layout on the 2016 23 was problematic so your investigation is worth the effort.

The quieter AC should be an advantage. The loss is that you will not have the loud AC to cover traffic noise. Given equal cooling, the ducted system would be a winner, because the 2015 FC23FB AC is loud even on the low speed fan setting. Pat

Would love to have a unit with ducted air. From what we hear it is worth the extra money to get the length and year that it became available. At a rally a woman was saying they can sit in their trailer and speak in normal volume to each other with the A/C running - what a dream!

Ducted air/heat

We have a 23D 2016 with ducted air/heat. Love it! Works great and very quiet.

We have had both ducted and non. I really like the ducted air. It worked well quieter and adjustable

We selected one of the last 2015 23D International Serenity models because we were planning on installing a large solar system on the roof and wanted to be sure there was support available for the panels. The ducted air system construction has not fully revealed.

And the new swiveling air registers have been widely reported as randomly falling out of the ceiling.

Since our 2014 Classic has two air conditioners, we are used to the blower sound and the 23D seems to have a reasonable level.
