Do we go bigger?
We are currently own a International Signature 27 2011 and we are considering going to a Flying Cloud 30 2015. We are concerned about the additional length in transportation and being able to get into camping sites without issues plus if there is anyone out there that owns this model, how about some feedback. We do a lot of state park camping and usually don't spend more than 4-5 nights per park. We like to keep moving. Any opinions about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Morning, we just moved from a 27' International to a 30' Bunk. We have only had it a short while and have noticed no difference in road handling or park access. The family loves the extra space and we don't have any regrets. Safe travels, Roger.
We have a 31' Classic, and like you, don't stay long in a CG. We stay in State parks as well as County parks.
Yes, there are always short sites for tents and popups that we can't use. However, there are also longer sites that we can use.
We have never wished we had a shorter trailer. Love the additional space inside our 31'.
We move as well, this is our second 30" FC and our third AS. First was 25', way too small for us, fabulous trailer we bought used from someone who wanted to go to 30' after one year, which we did the same. Now another 30'. No issues with length, did go into a gas station I could not get out of going frontwards so had my wife get out and backed out onto the street in a small town. No one seemed too upset, but what is is.
We ordered our 2015 - 30' with lots of options. She has two A/C and 1000 watt inverter. Two A/Cs also give two heat pumps. We have 16" wheels and Michelin truck tires ordered from the factory. Picked it up in December so we have not used her yet, but did camp extensively in our previous 30' FC and loved it. We usually camp the same way you seem to, 1 or 2 nights someplace and maybe stretch it to 4 nights and then move on. No real issued at campgrounds etc. Walmarts don't seem to be an issue either for us. Drive in carefully and pick a spot I can get out of.
Personally I'd go for it, but it is a personal thing.
Best of Luck
We also made the move from a 27' SOB to a 31' AS. Only reason we moved up was that we had to in order to get the layout we preferred.
I really did not want to and was fearful that we might run into the problems you mention - but with rare exceptions it has been nothing but a positive change.
By rare exception, I mean that probably there would be the odd site we could not have gotten into with the 31 whereas the 27 might - but it has honestly never been an issue.
Towing is not different whatever, and backing into sites no more difficult. I think that because we now have the Hensley, - which does even add another foot or so to the overall length of the rig - we can back more sharply.
I would make the switch again without hesitation! As someone mentioned, that extra few feet translates to a whole lot more living space!
