Do I need a 2nd AC unit?

Ashrink12, great idea on using one AC and the other fan. Have you checked the current draw with an AC unit running on fan only? This sounds like a good plan with only 30 amp service.

On my Flying Cloud 30, both AC units are controlled by the thermostat in the bedroom--we all know about that. But, I have found that the temperature probe in the Dometic unit regulates the temperature for both zone 1 and 2. There is what looks like a temperature probe next to the TV amidship but it isn't part of the AC control. I am at the dealer and have asked them to figure it out. I understand that a second temperature probe needs to be wired to one AC unit to make it a zone control. Maybe Airstream hooked it up incorrectly at the factory. As it is, zone 1 and 2 are regulated the same by the bedroom control. Any ideas?

Mine works the same as yours, because I disconnected the zone 2 sensor. I always had problems controlling the temperature. Now it works great. My advise, leave it alone.

Now that I have a rear temp sensor, I can control Zone 1 & 2 independently. I know of at least 1 other 26u that AS hooked up the rear sensor but left the sensor up in the insulation somewhere. The sensor is now mounted under the rear curb side overhead storage.

I would pull out the front and rear return air grills and make sure both temp sensors are connected. It is a flat 2-wire connector with one black and one white wire. If one is not connected, both a/c's will be controlled be the connected sensor.

AstroBruce, where is your zone 2 sensor? Why didn't it work? I will pull the air return duct and check the wiring. I thought a trip to the roof would be necessary.

My zone 2 sensor was never mounted on the wall. The AS factory left it somewhere between the skins. The dealer told me that they would have to remove some of the inner skins to find the sensor. Rather than do that, I had the dealer send me a new sensor which I mounted near the ceiling return. It worked OK, but I found that when running both units at the same time, one seemed to be doing all the work. When both units are using the same sensor, they cycle together one minute apart. Works for me.
