The gasoline did well. Does it clean quickly or require rubbing. The finish does not come off with gas does it?

Gas is rough on you but with proper pre-cautions it should provide a good result

Have you tried "Bar Keepers Friend"?

How about a truck stop acid wash, followed up with a baking soda bath and recaulk the trailer?

Every chemical known to Mankind...

Dave and I have been using everything suggested and more. The progress is slow, but sure. Unfortunately, the AS remains distinctly bronzed and buckled. I have been reading a lot of forum threads and now worry that we will be seen as Lepers and will be shunned! (read parking at Walmart). Please, oh please do not shun us in our humble abode!
We are still waiting for bids for our list of parts. Someone asked if we had broken glass. Well, the answer to that changed a week ago in a wind storm when I left a window unlatched. Who knew the window would break into a gadzillion sparkles?
We'll post some interior before / current pictures tomorrow.

Susan

Crispyboy,
We need major parts replaced prior to wash /caulk /recaulk. The Barkeeper's Friend is better in dry form than the emulsion, but best with lots of elbow grease.

The frig is now stocked and running cold!!!

Use it and enjoy it, worry not what others think...

I don't.

By the way, I saw one heading east on I 10 in New Mexico last Tuesday that looked like it had been next to a fire like yours and cleaned up. I thought maybe you all got it done already!

We stopped at a freeway rest area when we were bringing our hot dog home from the salvage yard. We parked in the quietest, most far away location. Within 2 minutes that shiny new airstream parked right next to us, wanting to know what happened. In 5 more minutes the State Trooper pulled in. He wanted to know why we were wasting our time! It was pretty funny!

Flight of the Phoenix (with apologies to the movie)

Hereís some photos to go along with duncansís post about picking up our crispy critter airstream.

Since we had no idea if anything would work, we took a car towing light bar with us, but the wiring was too short. Rather than splice in more footage, I took a chance and plugged the Airstream into our TVís 7 wire connector. Not only did the lights work, but the trailer brakes did too!! I canít tell you how happy I was when I saw those tail markers glowing.

We stopped at the closest tire service center to air up, then proceeded down the freeway till nature called. Shortly after arriving at the rest area, another Airstream pulled into the nearly empty lot and parked, naturally, right next to us. ďWhatís the story? he asked.

And then a state trooper parked in on our other side. He thought we were nuts to tackle rehabilitating the Phoenix. We tried to talk him into citing us for Excessive Dreaming, but he declined to get out of his cruiser. At least he agreed to our posing with his cruiser.

And there we were, sandwiched between the law and shiny glory. Despite the goth look, she pulled like a dream and we arrived home in short order. Been cleaning on her ever since.

It's fixing itself overnight! Or it will soon...

Maybe it just needs more cursing.

I tried briefly to find a clip, but nothing good,, the car fixed itself over night, once after burning.

But, Christine was evil, Phoenix is good!!

What if you painted it silver? Airstream made an Argosy that was painted...it might be cheaper in the long run and you won't get poisoned in the process of using all those chemicals! Then you would never have to polish it and we would ALL be jealous of you!

Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse... but you take a boat in the air that you don't love... she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds.
