Extra Bolster in 26U
Hello Everyone,
We use the extra long bolster at the head of our bed. My husband is 6'4" so we slide the mattress down the width of the bolster to give us extra length with our queen bed. It really helps.
We leave tomorrow (May 3rd) for Missouri to visit family. We are staying at the Big Red Barn RV Park in Carthage. Looks pretty nice. We'll be there for 10 nights so I hope it is nice! I would love to hear thoughts from anyone who has stayed there.
On our way out from Maryland, we plan to stop at Jackson Center for a tour. We don't have any issues with our AS (yet) so we are only visiting. Should be fun. Since we are arriving early afternoon, I hope we can get a spot for overnight.
We are very pleased with our decision to get the 26U. We love the layout.
Here's to AS adventures,
Mike

JC Service
Service completed. Chris and the JC team did a Great Job getting it out 3 Days early. Had Brent replace the wall that had bubbles. Also replaced piece above bath Door. Realign /Cut Etc. so the bath door now clears that cabinet handle.
2. Replaced TV cable from amp to TV.
3. Re-aligned Cabinet Door's (microwave etc.)
4. RE glue brush strip on screen door.
5. Install wheel to protect awning on Door.
6. Install missing Velcro on U-Dinette.
7. Replace broken latch on vent panel below closet.
8. Rotated 180 Deg's. panel below closet so heat duct will clear the install of
winterize kit. Had to re-position latch's.
9. Replaced 7 "Noisy LED" (Electrical Noise) light unit's to fix TV reception
problem.
Great Job.
Mentioned concern about Dealer install of WD/Hitch install. They had Russ
inspect and re-do hitch. Much Better !!
So Thank's to the JC Center Staff. We had a very good experience.
But Best of all we meet some Very Nice Owner's and got to share camping
and travel stories. "Airstream" owner's are the nicest people.
Just made it back home after 6 hr. drive, but now the truck is having issue's
Growling sound and shift problem's. Well at least the trailer is ready to go.

What are #'s 5 & 6? Also discovered extra storage under the dinette on the right hand corner and underneath the front cushion.. the dealer didn't know about it. I also called A/S to ask about the extra cushion and they don't know....go figure...

Knunut...... "5. Install wheel to protect awning on Door."
Any chance of seeing a photo of the wheel on door. I have the same issue as probably most AS's have.
Nice to hear you had a good experience at JC. We did to as we stayed there a couple nights as we passed by. Will probably head there this fall for a couple minor adjustments.

Chatted with ZipDee parts today. The parts man stated that the roughly $7 #1DR000 door wheel comes with every awning kit and Airstream discards them......

I mentioned this to JC service while we were there. There was no official response. They installed one on our trailer at no charge !
Call JC service and mention what ZipDee said. They might send one out .N/C .
If they don't want to install at factory ,they should at least throw it in a drawer so the dealer or owner can install.
Had one on our 07 and it nice to have.

OK; I don't understand the need here? What will happen if you don't install? Airstream doors are rounded unlike other RV's. We have never had an issue with the door and awning in owning 3 different 25's; what am I missing?

Door Wheel.
Nothing ,if you have never had the awning rub on the door as you go in and out. We have tilted ours may times to shed the rain and if that is the low end it rubs the cloth. (Damages it and can allow water to come thru.)
Some people don't like the look ,i think that's why Factory doesn't install.Plus the additional 10 min.labor.

I never had an issue with my 1997 21 Excella. On my 25FC RB Twin, with the awning adjusted just one notch below fully deployed, the edge of the door perfectly caught the open side of the sewn seam of the awning. First time I opened the door with this scenario it cut the first row of threads. I was not a happy camper.
I take delivery Thur. of my 26U and this thread jogged my memory in what might happen, so I'm being safer than sorry and having dealer install one. May not need it but not going to have this ugly issue happen again.

I bought one of the awning rollers a few years ago, still have it, but just can't bring myself to drill into the door and put it on. Meantime I noted the upper side of the door panel is a folded aluminum edge, and pretty rough where it was cut to manufacture.
I took a file and some sandpaper and smoothed it so it slides nicely when the awning is dropped a notch and makes contact. It will still rub the awning when opening the door, but I wonder if any worse than the awning roller. It seems the awning roller wheel has too skid sideways a bit making the arc.
Maybe I should just put it on there and think less about it, try not to notice it going in and out the door. Is there another solution, maybe some kind of roller bearing we could mount just inside the door edge and out of sight?

Not sure which may or may not be worse, the door or the roller, but I had the roller installed at JC on our first Airstream and it will leave a mark where it makes contact with the awning. That is my experience anyway, and I assume it was installed correctly. Taking it off after install is probably not an option because of the hole in the door, which I guess could be hidden with a rivet, but better left alone in my opinion. I like the idea of smoothing out the top of the door, I think I'll check mine out and see if it is rough.
