Brian

Just happened across this comment. I used my water pump for the first time yesterday. Yeeeeow that thing is loud! I have no doubt that it is located under our coat closet in the 25fb... how is it accessed though? Something has to happen there. I sounds like it's sitting on bare metal and just as loud as can be.

That panel will open like a cabinet door.

Open the wardrobe door. Take a small screw driver and stick it behind the panel below that has the furnace vent in it. Pop open the door. It is hinged on the left. You'll see the water pump about a foot in.

My pump is also a little load. But yet when I put my hand on it (while running) it does not seem to be as big an issue as the hose lines. When I hold the hose lines the sound gets dramatically better. I'm assuming my hoes must be touching a cabinet or something but cannot really see in there well enough to confirm. Has anyone got any idea on how to isolate the hoses a little better?

Thanks

Doug

I've put foam pipe insulation on the hoses where they contact something. I did it at the same time I did other things so I don't know how it helped. But it couldn't hurt.

Go to your local hardware store and buy a 20" faucet hose it will have 2 female ends ,install it between the pump and pex tubing. This will allow for rapid expansion of the water when pump is turned on

I'm going to have to try that trick.

The door under the wardrobe can be difficult to open though I've never tried Brian's screwdriver trick. I'd be afraid of damaging the Formica glued to the door. I pull on the bottom of the door with as many finger tips as I can and it eventually opens. There's a heat vent in the door and that assembly makes it hard to open the door all that far, but there's enough room for access to the pump. You can install a small tank in the plumbing line to reduce noise, but the idea of a longer flexible pipe probably does the same thing.

Not all Airstreams have the pump in this location, but a lot do. Ours was installed backwards so the filter was at the back and inaccessible, but they turned it around at the Airstream service center at no charge. I installed a kit in the line to more easily pump antifreeze into the system when winterizing.

I have always opened this compartment with a screw driver or pocket knife blade. If you open the wardrobe door and pry the lower compartment door from the top right corner, it opens without any damage to the door. I have considered putting a knob on this access door on Old Lucy, but never got around to it.

Mine opens quite easily by grabbing it at the bottom.

I put pipe insulation around some of my plumbing around the water pump. Several pipes were in contact with each other and with drain pipes which vibrated against. It seemed to knock down some of the vibration noise.

Hi Doug,
The water pump in my Sig is usually whisper quiet. However, the one in my Safari caused the pipes to rattle somewhere and I could not fix it so I minimized the length of time it made a racket by installing a 1 gal residential accumulator tank from Home Depot. I stuffed it up under the sink and it really resolved the stress from the noise since the pump ran so infrequently. Never at night but occasionally during the day. 1 gallon is a fair bit of water in an Airstream. I suppose it ran when I was in the shower but with all the banging around I couldn't hear it. By the way, I just went through your neck of the woods but stayed at the Walmart in North Battleford which was a days drive for me from Winnipeg. Jim
