New Lucy had another vent cover pop out during yesterday's 350 mile run through Colorado into Wyoming. It was the one directly above the kitchen sink. We found it in the sink when we made camp last night.

I should have asked to see your trailer the other day, but we were all needing to get back to our lives. Maybe I would have been able to come up with something to solve the problem. My latest idea is low tack adhesive. It comes in spray cans and might give the vent a bit more sticking power. Never having seen these vents, I can't think of anything else. A photo? Someone will have a good idea.

The problem is that the directional vents have 2 pieces so that they can be rotated and also adjusted for air flow. Since ours haven't fallen (yet), I can't tell how they are secured.

Here are pics showing a vent closed then opened while remaining in the same direction. You can see the inner ring on which it must rotate.

Here is a photo of the other side of one of the new vents. There are eight little plastic clips that are supposed hold the vent to the ceiling.

I like the look of those registers—in the Art Deco tradition.

The clips look like they fit by tension against some sort of ring. I would put some masking tape around a few of them and see if the additional tension will help. I'm not sure a low tack adhesive would work, but it might make it marginally stickier.

At least they are not falling on your head.

What I have done so far to attempt to correct this problem is to take a pair of needle nose pliers and very carefully bend out the locking clips. This semm to be working so far.

On one particular vent, I have added three small pieces of automotive trim two sided tape to the outer ring of the vent. We'll see how this all works when Lucy has another hard day on the road.

As we sit here in Lucy in Wyoming in the rain, we are contemplating possible improvements to New Lucy. One of the things that we are considering is getting her a street side awning. We added the little back awning at Jackson Center this spring, and really like it.

We would like to get some feedback as to a street side awning's use and value. I think that it would cost us around $2000 to add this awning. Is it worth it?

We have one on ours. It helps shade the fridge area and reduces heat gain on that side by lots. Can't always deploy it, but it's there when we need it just like the rear one.

Like having all three so we can chose how we set it up. Street side awning is not as big as curbside, but it does help us stay cool, and it's very easy to deploy. Use it a lot more than the big one when we are traveling and leave our dogs aboard in cool weather with the fans running. We try to park to use it to advantage.

We like ours. It seems to make a meaningful difference in interior heat when the sun is hitting that side of the trailer, which is important to us in Florida in summer. Also, it is very easy to deploy. Joe

We had the street side awning added to our FC 25FB, it has made a huge difference. Keeps the AS quite a bit cooler, and certainly helps the frig. The street side awning is very easy to deploy, and provides a nice cover for when we have the street side windows open. The street side awing only sticks out a bit further than those side side windows on the 25FB.

My only wish is that the rear ZIP DEE awning we had added was wider and came out further to cover our cooking station we have mounted to the ZIP DEE bracket we added.

If you forgot what I posted, here it is again:

Hi Brian...

Are you referring to a street side window awning or a street side full patio awning?

On our older 19ft we had a street side full patio awning installed partly for looks but moreso for keeping the inside temperatures lower. It also was very beneficial for the refrigerator. We also really liked being able to keep our generator and bikes etc. covered and out of the rain/sun.

The roof rail is already there. And, for looks, you'll notice that the front and rear endcap sections of the trailer are a matte finish while the sides are a shiny glossy finish. This always looked funny to us. The awning poles hide this abrupt finish transition. And, having the rolled up awning in place at the roof rail hides the white roof when you see the trailer from the side. With the ducted air now however it would be even harder to hide the white roof with the awning but it would still help.

The difference in inside temperatures was worth it alone. But, when the sun used to beat down on that side the refrigerator used to really struggle and the little fan never stopped. The awning made a huge, huge difference in the refrigerator's performance.

The cost to have it installed at the factory was around $2000 and had a couple week lead time so they could order the parts. A 25ft would be a little more as they charge by the awning's size. Regarding the work done...some of the screwheads were stripped when they installed it and I still need to take it apart and tighten up the spring a bit...it wasn't the best installation in all honesty. The paint was badly cracked and flaking on one pole endcap (where it says ZipDee) and after a few months they sent me a new one to install myself.

At the same time, we added a rear awning as well in matching Pacific Blue Fancy which is the fabric we chose for the street side awning. We love that one and it was installed perfectly. We removed the clear protective tape from the trailer because it was installed terribly and looked horrible.

Our original curb side awning was originally gray and we had this changed to Pacific Blue Fancy when we bought the trailer at the original dealer...cost was around $400 or so to do that. I thought that was reasonable...so, you can have all your awnings match for a decent cost. I still have the new gray fabric saved from our trailer...don't let them keep it if you swap yours out...

Our assessment is the same as most of the above. As I've mentioned elsewhere,we added Zip Dee tie downs at each end to keep the awning secure from gusty winds. Our streetside and rear awnings stay deployed all winter.

I just pulled out the Airstream Service Center invoice dated April 29, 2015. It shows the cost of the vents (part #382276-01) as $9.70 each.

I ordered the brackets directly from ZIP-DEE. The brackets are Part number "210060-BASE BRACKET", and the bars are "1ZZ:304-4' Satin Solid Bars". (I called ZIP-DEE at (847)437-0980, and they had them on the way the next morning. ) Mounting was with Stainless Steel screws from Ace Hardware, with Sikaflex sealant. The ZIP-DEE satin solid bars need to be ordered by length, I believe I was charged about $4.92 per foot, and you will need to cut and drill to your needs.

If you have additional questions, please contact me directly, rather than using this thread, as I did not intend to hijack this thread when I commented regarding my wish for a larger rear awning than that offered by Airstream.
