Brian, I'm not sure if I added the site correctly. I hope it is there since you may find a few places that are familiar. Jim

Thanks, Jim. I do remember a couple of these from first hand experience. Snowflake, Manitoba is right across from Hannah, North Dakota and the Peace Garden is at the Port of Dunseith. I was stationed at Pembina, North Dakota in the early 1970's and traveled that border on a daily basis for three years.

We traveled along the North Dakota/Manitoba Border a couple of years ago. I found it interesting that this area is pretty much the same as it was 40+ years ago.

Some of ND may be very different than it was a couple of years ago since there has been oil and gas exploration there. I suspect there are few places to stay even though the industry there has fallen on bad times. We went through western ND some years ago after leaving Moose Jaw, Sask., and then it was just grassland and not much else.

We visited Dickinson and Williston in the summer of 2013 when the North Dakota Oil Boom was at its height. Campsites were hard to come by, but we found one in Dickinson and spent about a week exploring the area.

It was really exciting to see all the goings on. The highways were full of tanker trucks going in every direction. Tall drilling rigs dotted the landscape. We talked to the manager of a drill site. He told us that they were starting roughnecks at $100,000 a year. Every drill site had RV hook-ups for their employees.

It was the first time we had ever seen US Post Offices with large "HELP WANTED" signs out front.

Seeing all this was like getting a glimpse into history. It must have been like this during the Texas Oil Boom of the 1920's.

It wasn't exactly your normal tourist attraction, but we thought that it was better than Disney World.

When gas drilling was at its height in western Colorado ten years ago, one of the burger chains offered "signing bonuses". That's in Grand Junction where wages are traditionally low. A glut of gas followed and drilling tapered off and more off until hardly any is being done anymore. Most of the gas was in counties to the east, but many suppliers and workers were in GJ. Between the Great Recession and the gas bust, this area has been hurting for years. At the height of the boom RV sites were very hard to find from GJ east to Glenwood Springs and beyond. Boom/bust economy has happened over and over here, but for North Dakota, it is probably a new thing.

When Alaska oil was still doing pretty well in the early '00's, we met several workers who would fly in and out of Deadhorse/Prudoe Bay. They made a lot of money and hated the jobs and living that way.

Not good to be an oil state. Disney World didn't do much for me either but it seems to last longer than the oil and gas booms.

We have always enjoyed Airstream forays into the unusual. The North Dakota Oil Boom was one of these unusual events.

We are finally finishing the renovation of our beach house. Now we have turned to getting New Lucy ready for another epic journey. Our plan is to explore the Forgotten Coast (Apalachicola Area) then make a short stop over in Jacksonville. We will then head up to Fort Eustis, Virginia to visit the third son and his family. From there we will head up to Maine for some Moosing. We would also like to go over into Nova Scotia for some Canada Moosing. We are also planning a stop in Jackson Center in August to get Lucy a street side awning. From there we will make our way back to Florida. We need to be back in Jacksonville for a family wedding on August 27th.

Unless another trip is going to happen in the fall, I doubt our paths will cross this year. If we get to the northeast, it will be in September. Maybe 2017 and I'll get to see the inside of your newest Lucy.

Are you glad you went through a couple of trailers, or wish you had stayed with your 2005? I have a vague feeling you answered that some time in the past and like the new A/C as it is quieter (except when the register falls down—hope they stay in place now) and the twin beds.

Hi Gene. We hope that at some point we can meet up again and that you can get to see New Lucy before she gets too old. We're not sure how long we will stay out West this year. Of course, you are always welcome to come Santa Rosa Beach.

As far as the Lucy experience goes, Old Lucy needed at lot of work, and we didn't want to spend the time getting her fixed up. We had been talking about downsizing to a 23, and came across a hardly used one, so we jumped at jumped at it. Little Lucy, the 23FB, was not the panacea that we had hoped. We gave her a good try. We spent 150 nights in her and towed her 15,000 miles. We decided that we really missed Old Lucy, and according, decided that we really wanted a 25FB, so we got New Lucy. She now has over 200 nights and 20,000 miles under her belt. The ducted Air conditioning is great. We are still experiencing some falling of the registers. We also really like the metal interior. Old Lucy was still in the days of the mouse fur. We also like the twin bed arrangement.

We are just anxious to get her on the road. As you know this remodeling houses crap gets really old and cuts into our Airstreaming.

Thanks for the update. Can't believe you are already up to 20,000 miles on New Lucy. We just hit 60,000 with ours. I'm really wanting to finish remodeling before I'm too old to finish and still get some miles on our toys. I envy the ducted air, but not enough to start over when I know ours so well.

I just checked Lucy's Log Book. New Lucy has been towed 20,416 miles, and we have spent 219 nights in her. Lucy has not been on the road since the first of February due to this house renovation. She is getting very anxious and we hope to get going soon.

Wrong. I saw that 2016 miles (almost 5,000) got counted twice. Actual miles are 55,101.

Hi Fred. The St. Joseph Peninsular State Park is nice. It's out on the end of the Cape.

Indian Pass Campground is also nice, and conveniently located.

There is also Sunset Isle RV and Yacht Club over in Carabelle. We have not stayed there yet, but plan to try it. It looks very nice on line. It is also a Passport America with a great rate during the week.

There is a lot to see in the Apalachicola area. The only real supermarket on the area is the Piggly Wiggly in Port St. Joe. The next closest are in Panama City or Tallahassee.

Have a great trip and let us know what you find interesting. You might want to check out the Dr. John Gorrie House and Museum in Apalachicola. In 1851, Dr. Gorrie, a physician, invented a machine that produced ice and is considered the Father of artificial refrigeration. It is hard to believe that such an important invention was conceived and built in a little town in the middle of nowhere.
