2015 FC Back compartment won't lock.

We have a 2015 Flying Cloud and cannot get the keys for back storage
compartment to lock it. Dealer sent a
set to us with same numbers and they don't work either. This is our third AS and no trouble before now. Any ideas as to why it won't lock would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have found that the gasket pressure from a new rig often will make it difficult to lock or unlock compartments. Try this: Press in on the top edge of the compartment near the lock while trying to turn the key. It may be something as simple as that.

I have noticed on our new 20' that the keys are REALLY rough. I have to work them hard to get them all the way in so they will even turn. I'm gonna run them over to HD and use their wire brush wheel on the key machine.

Those locks are standard RV fare. The same key opens all of the compartments on my Outfitter Truck Camper. Hit the locks with a shot of WD-40 from the outside. This is a good idea to do every once in a while as PM. I also think that pressing on the door might help.

Starting in 2014, some genius at Airstream keyed all storage access locks to the CH751 pattern common to all trailers on the market. Thus really no security at all. However, my local locksmith was able to rekey the lock cylinders, so they are all the same as my camper shell. One less unique key to carry.

When I can I change them to the hollow cylinder "Coke machine door" type.

As to lubricant, try a dry film type. HD and Lowes and Ace all carry the Liquid Wrench offering. Good on any exterior and interior item. The Acme Screw stabilizer jacks are the reason I purchase it versus a more common type.

Press in on the compartment door while turning the lock cylinder. Also, turn the lock cylinder to the close/latched position first, and then turn the key. Usually it is right to unlock and left to lock.

The new black rectangle framed storage door locks for 2014 sometimes just do not want to latch. I have rotated the handle counter clockwise to get the latch to go over the frame and catch.

Pushing on the door just above the latch also helps on occasion.

There is really no reason to have an ACE (round key) on your storage compartments as these locks are to keep the honest folks, honest. Most other manufactures do the same with their keys. A good Walmart screwdriver will access any compartment door in less time than a key. Haven't changed my keys either. Now to make it so you don't have the building supers key ring is a good idea.

Yes, agreed - Why would you lock the compartment when there are millions of the same key around and you can basically open it with any basic tool.

We would lock it to keep someone from stealing our stuff. The average person in a parking lot at Walmart or somewhere would not just "happen" to have an RV key. We have valuable items in our AS and when the back compartment is open AS owners know one can crawl into to get inside. Thanks to all who gave us good info. We will be at Jackson Center next month and they have it on our list now. Thanks again!

Oh if they want in, no lock will stop them.

We had some work done last week at Jackson Center. They took out locks and replaced them and everything is fine! Evidently they had received some defective locks. Very pleased with Airstream Service Center. Will return next year.
