Lindaebrewer — We are seriously considering moving up from 19' Bambi to 23' FB. Spent a while at the dealership yesterday looking at the 23FB. Overall we felt the it would work better for us except the U-Shaped dinette. Very interested to see the pictures once your jackknife couch modification is complete. That sounds like a great solution.

Very interesting discussion. No place to lounge? The table top is removable. Those corner cushions were one of the selling points for us. Table extends into the aisle. Yes, but it slides back in as well. Bed? The 23FB is likely a bit small for more than two folks, so the dinette is not needed for a bed. If it is for your travel style, a filler board easily replaces the table top and the dinette table fits behind the front bed. A topper would not be a bad addition if the cushions are problematic.

We like our dinette. It adds work space to the limited galley counter space. We find it as comfortable as a restaurant booth, which we prefer to tables and chairs. The table lowers to the right height for a sewing machine so Nancy can quilt. It is a great place to sit for morning coffee to enjoy the view through the side windows. Yes, we like our dinette.

Hope your modifications go well. Having the right layout for your lifestyle really does make a difference. Travel safe and enjoy the smiles. Pat

Changed out a 25' and then a 30' to lounge chairs, then back when we sold them. Much more comfortable with recliners. Pretty easy to do.

To be honest, the U shaped dinette in any form was ruled out by us when we looked at Airstreams. For us it was uncomfortable, awkward and too much a waste of space in trade. I can see why Airstream would like it though as it makes for a more modular design that requires no engineering time and a cheaper build. Unfortunately to us it looks it.

Did you get this completed? I'm just curious how it's working for you?
If you have a picture or two that you wouldn't mind posting, I would appreciate it. We love our 23 FB, but I always like to see possible changes.
Thanks!

Believe it or not, the 1st iteration did not work out. The couch was not deep enough. It was the same narrow seat base as on the dinette, or nearly as narrow. Anyway, it's presently being refitted w a more comfortable, couch-like seat. (It will still extend/fold out to make a bed when needed.)We will be getting AS back at the end of this week. Hopefully everything will be perfect, & I can get pictures then.

O-KAY - Re-re configured the space where the U-shaped dinette used to be. Altered the seat to be more couch-like. Deeper seat & slanted back. Using Lifetime foldable/storable tables when a table is needed. (Eating, computer) 2 stools for storage & additional seating & lounging. MUCH MORE SPACE. Yea. Will try to post a photo.

Make you images smaller in size before uploading and they will display in the proper orientation. Really like the Westie.

Sure opens it up. I really like looking out that window though.. As usual, with every change, there are pluses and minuses. Looks nice!
