2014 Flying Cloud 23FB - Fixed U Shaped Dinette

Just heard that Airstream will be using the same concept for the fixed U shaped dinette as in the 2013 30FB. Makes a lot of sense.

Does anyone know where we can find a video which shows this dinette in action? Ie, adjusting table height, table swivel optiongs, making up as bed.

We might be in the market to order one of these units (23FB) later this year.

Thanks!

We are curious about this U shaped dinette, too. Will it replace the side dinette in the 23 FB, or replace the front dinette in the corner bed model, or both ??

We are interested in moving up from our 2004 19 Foot Bambi Safari to a 23FB Flying Cloud. Does anyone know whether Airstream offers the option of the carpeted interior that came with the Safari models like our? Is there an owner of a 2013 23FB Flying Cloud who can give a testimonial ?

Not sure, but we were only inquiring about the 23FB and it comes with the U shaped dinette. Don't think it is an option, it is the design for 2014 as far as I know. This is very recent news apparently.

I had a 2011 FC 23, and there was no option to carpet. Perhaps if you wanted it that way, the factory would do that on a special order, but for the life of me, I can't see why you would want carpet; there are many options when it comes to throw rugs and runners.

Rivets are awarded based upon the number of posts the individual makes to the forum. I do not remember the lower numbers but I think 250 posts are four rivets and 500 posts are five rivets.

Colonial has the 2014 brochure on their site. (http://colonialairstream.com/Airstre...el_trailer.pdf)

Very few standard layouts have the U shaped dinette. The 23FB, the 30 Bunk and a 22FB sport, that I can see. Looks like it may substantially narrow the corridor. That said, looks like a very nice design.

Edit: And I just looked at the floor plans on the Airstream corporate site. They do not show a U-shaped dinette in the 23FB FC. I'd probably rely on the brochure, myself.

Perhaps this has been discussed previously, but it seems to me it would be a relatively simple mod to adapt a pre-2014 FC 23FB dinette to the U-shape dinette in the 2014.

To answer an earlier question on the thread: the 23fb is a two axle trailer. It is the smallest two axle trailer AS currently makes.

If you have Airstream make the change - simple yes and going to put a major dent in the wallet - but it will look factory when completed.

I just traded in my 2008 20' Safari for a 2014 23FB Flying Cloud. It came with the U shaped Dinette. I love the trailer, but I'm not sure I like the dinette. It has sliders under the table top so that you can slide the table out into the aisle to provide room to sit in the back seat. This blocks part of the aisle and prevents the refrigerator door from opening all the way. Also slider has some play in it that causes the table top to wobble. When making the table into a bed with the old stile dinette the top of the table would be flush with the seat frame to provide a flat bed. With the U shaped Dinette the table rests on the top of the seat frame. This couses a large lump in the bed. You also end up with extra cushions that you need to find room to store for the night. We don't use our dinette for a bed so this isn't a problem and it's usually just my wife and I at the table so we don't need to slide it out into the aisle. But I don't like the wobble.

We like the dinette in our our 2011. We do sit 4 at the table even with the wheel well which looks like it would be difficult with the u lounge. However, what we liked best is the more open feel compared to the u shaped lounge, and we think it will be easier to recover the two cushions compared to the u shaped dinette. That said I could see how the U lounge could better for some.

I am so interested in your reason for hating the u-shaped dinette. Please elaborate.

The dinette seats & the table protrude too far into the kitchen. The cushions are too rigid for comfort. The curved cushions at the corners take up too much seating space. The table protrudes too far toward one's stomach when one is sitting at the dinette. The table moves too easily by accident. The bench cushion across the back is too narrow. The "bed" configuration is a piecemeal mess of cushions on which no one could sleep comfortably, and the bulky, curved corner cushions have to be stored somewhere. There is no place to lounge comfortably. One can only sit squished at the table.

We have a 2016 23FB. We really like the bedroom queen bed and all the storage and closet space. We also like the rear bath. All in one and plenty of room. Our U shape table and seating is fine for two adults. We had a 23FB previously that had just the normal table and we actually like the U shape better.

I wish Airstream would offer a jacknife sofa option along that wall in place of the table and U shape seating. You could just use TV trays for eating. It would open up that area and provide comfortable seating. We might do that in the future. It would need to be a short sofa but I have seen them in trailers.

You can build a more comfortable dinette bench.

We find the dinette floor plan in our 25FB a reasonable compromise for the use of space. We never make it into a bed/lounge. We do find it uncomfortable to sit at after a while. My wife is especially bothered, and so she has reconfigured the curb side bench. She installed a fixed backrest that is angled at 10 degrees, positioned to give her just the right seat pan depth. She also obtained new foam for the bottom and back cushions (two types of foam in each cushion). The cushions came back from the upholstery shop today.

Airstream's foam in our 2013 is relatively soft. Our new cushions have a firmer/better quality main layer with a thinner, softer layer on top.

And note this: The seat pan depth may be different between the two sides of the dinette (the difference was two inches on ours). Check yours and make sure you use the side that fits you best.

U shaped dinette?

What is it you don't like about the u shaped dinette. Just purchased a 66 24ft trade wind twin and were considering changing out to a u shaped dinette. Having trouble finding plans or examples

Presently have our 23' FC in for reno. Taking out the U dinette & putting in jackknife type couch w table top that slides out from armrest on one end & folds open when it's time to eat. 2 storage/extra seating ottomans to provide lounging option when table is stored away. Will post photos when complete. (Also getting rid of boring brown leatherette & replacing w turquoise! Yes!)
