We have a 2010 28'FC. The storage it offers is excellent and we appreciate having that. I also appreciate having the sleeping capacity in that my two adult sons and I use the trailer to go to races. We like all having our own bed so we can get some rest. We also use the dinette for meals since we go in the early spring and it can be cool.

So we are content with our layout and would not be willing to give up the L couch or the dinette. However, the cushions are simply not of the quality level we want. By the way, that can be said for the majority of factory stuff from what I've seen. We are going to change the cushion material to a better grade material, perhaps add a bit to the thickness (1/2 or 1") and hope for something a bit more firm. Obviously thicker foam would require new upholstery. We do not like the covering on the back of the dinette anyway. The upholstery would be a fun project and my wife can sew really well, although she hasn't done very much in recent years. Of course an alternative is to get a pro to do it and that may be an option but I doubt that my wife will be willing to go that route. I have been studying sewing machines that have the capacity to sew leather since I have always wanted to do that anyway. BTW, I am not wanting leather in the Twinkie.

Yea - had my 25FB before and my current 27FB after - I really, really, really like have a door to the bathroom vice having to look at the toilet from the bedroom or having it blocked off from one end or the other....

Take possession of our 30 ft this month. The 28 AS was our first choice; however, hope to use it into retirement on extended trips. We talked to folks at rally's and quickly changed our minds for the 30/ with the recliners and full awning package. We only wanted the purchase to " hurt once".

After reading this thread and the responses regarding the 27 and 28' models AND my wondering about the measure of that short part of the L lounge, I took my measuring tape and headed for the dealer. The small L is about 60-63" from the front.

While there I became curious about the 27' that is 28' and the 28 that is a 27' 11". So I did some measuring comparing them to a 25'. I also discovered that a 28 can also be ordered with twins so I started my comparison. I decided to find out what is offered in two feet more( from the 25') and how the two larger models differ aside from the obvious L lounge or dinette/side couch layout. Basically what I discovered is that one foot is open space at the end of the twin beds. The other foot is divided differently in either model- one has 6" more galley counter than a 25' while the other adds a few inches more counter beyond that. One has more open space to the left of the main door behind the dinette and the other offers a bigger wardrobe than a 25' by a foot or so. All three have about the same size bathroom- a few inches more length in the 28. I left thinking how similar all three were considering that half of the two feet difference is at the foot of the twin beds as open space compared to wall to wall beds. ( I compared all three in their twin configuration so the turning of the larger bed is a non-factor- was told that the twin 28 & 27 share the same size bedroom). The 25 and 27 share the same dinette and couch so the extra foot beyond the bedroom is easily noticed in the wardrobe on one side and the counter and pantry on the other. I preferred the 28' rear bedroom regular rectangular window as opposed to the panos on both ends like the 25 and 27' models. Really any one of the new models of these three offers a lot. I WOULD say though that for a buyer looking at twin models, the primary advantage to considering the longer trailers would be 6" more of counter space and a bigger closet or extra open space by the door and an L lounge. I can see how each model has its draw. The 25 has every major feature-pantry, closet, etc. tucked in with space accounted for. The 27 offers two more feet but one foot purposely, the other as open floorspace ( in twin form) the primary draw a large closet and bigger pantry. The 28 is the rebel with that lounge, no apparent pantry but nice counter space and open floor space in the entrance area. From a financial perspective a buyer must contend with the cost of their preference, $6000 gets you a longer AS with lounge and $8500 additional bucks more gets you dual panos and seating that the shorter one has with a bigger pantry and a half foot of counter width.

We left the new factory twin mattresses at the factory as we had custom ones awaiting the trailer arrival. So looking at the mattress support board in the Classic model 30, the foot of the mattress should be about six inches from the wall and the head of the mattress will not be touching the curved wall next to the night stand. Lots of room as compared to the queen bed version. We have a roof locker above each side window above each twin bed and a usable full width hanging closet above the foot of each twin bed.

If one were into custom mattresses, our 2014 Classic model 30 twin bed model could probably have six inch longer twin mattresses, or 84" long.

I ordered a mattress from a custom shop it makes a difference as the eom was too soft for me.

We traded in our 2006 International 28' primarily because of the terrible seating using the "L" shaped bench. New foam, cushions made absolutely no difference. We went with 2011 Flying Cloud 30' with the sofa. A significant improvement in terms of comfort, storage, etc. The only significant early change we made was to get rid of the terrible, soft mattress.

A couple for question for those of you living with 28's....

Where do you tend to store dry foods since there is no pantry?
How do you deal with the cutlery drawers that are behind the cupboard in the kitchen? To my wife and I this seems like it would be a huge PITA. Has anyone modified it to remove the strange configuration?
What do you store in the doors under the dinette seats? They look to be useless and difficult to use.

We put canned goods and water in bins and store under the dinette. We strore dry foods in bins above the dinette.

I too have been looking at the 28 and 30 for sometime and comparing storage space available. I like how others have made the hall closet into a pantry and would probably do the same if I go with the 28..however still have concerns bout the hanging bedroom closet space..esp if I decide to do some extended trips and or fulltime in the future...Might add a few drawers in there.

We store dry foods in the cabinet above the dinette and use airtight plastic storage bins to make max use of the space. In the space below the dinette seats, we store a Dutch oven, Little Red campground, and other items that we like to have on the trailer but don't frequently use.

Has anyone removed or modified the cupboard door that hides the cutlery drawers? That design is really strange and a bit frustrating.

We were dead set on a 27fb queen until someone pointed out the twin option. My wife and I would have never considered it but now think it makes great sense and has many advantages. At that point we figured we could get by with a 25fb twin. However, we keep going back to the 28 and now in a twin. We have an 8yo and the separation between lounge and dinette is a big benefit. Also, the dinette being on the camp side is desirable. As far as the FB layout with the "view" being outside the back window....if it's such a great view I'll probably be outside

. There are lots of complaints about the lounge but I believe it would be easy enough to make a change there to fix it....a sofa with built-in recliner that pops out to a bed would be ideal

cory, comparing the Airstreams to how things function at home will lead to the largest available model, then a fifth wheel (view out the back!) or moho (view out the front!).

The basic functions are a weather-resistant shell providing a comfortable place to sleep, a place to sit comfortably in the evenings as well as eat meals, a place to prepare foods, and an indoor bath.

Most of your time awake in the Airstream will be spent reading, talking, playing games and watching your favorite tv show. It reasons then that's where the emphasis needs to be, a good living room. If you're comfortable there you won't worry much about opening a cabinet to make a sandwich.

I see your point but I always over analyze important/costly and especially longterm decisions. Our view is that we are waaay past "bare necessity" camping by selecting an Airstream and therefore we are making sure we decide on the right layout/size for our current and future (as best as possible) needs correctly the first time. We don't want to regret either not having the 2ft or having to drag around an extra 2ft

The cupboard with the utensil drawers is kinda goofy and it does irritate to have to open the door and then slide out the drawer, but I only notice when we have the two of us in the kitchen area. Would greatly prefer just a drawer, but that alone wouldn't determine my trailer choice.

Search and you'll find a good thread on how people have addressed the lounge in the 28. In retrospect, I would have special ordered the couch option, the one that reclines to a bed. We still use ours to lounge with our two kids, and are investigating adding firmer foam, as the stock foam is not great. If we have the trailer in eight more years when the kids are off to college, we will look at either the sofa or recliners. There is advantage in having that space for an extra bed, coupled with the dinette bed, so maybe not recliners.

Again, if you have the chance and are ordering, the 28 is a great option to pair with the sofa, just be prepared to pay. Otherwise, especially with just one kid, I would look at the 27 much harder.

Posts 51 and 52 above link to the cabinet mods I made. Elsewhere, you can locate the project to remove the dysfunctional and uncomfortable L seat and replace it with two lounge chairs. Since May, I've been on 5 different trips of varying duration. Storage is conquered with some more shelves in the SS wardrobe cabinets....really have little use for hanging more than what'll fit in the upper CS cabinet. I think I have modified everything to meet the travel needs of two guys and two basest hounds.
