I found that I could save over $450 by purchasing the exact same tires and wheels over the Internet. The other thing is that Airstream is not considered a tire dealer which means Michelin rebates are not applicable. Right now you can find rebates on the tires that range from $50-$70 for a set of 4. In most cases shipping on the tires is free and there are no sales taxes. I sold my 15" wheels on my Classic on Craigs list which lowered the cost of my new wheels to $50 each.

The recent issue last fall was the counterfeit Sendell wheels of seriously inferior quality. I would presume that Airstream would ensure that the wheels were the real McCoy.

While not TT model specific, I'd certainly move to a PRO PRIDE hitch and, along with the trailer 16" tire/wheel upgrade, specify trailer disc brakes (or, look to an aftermarket supplier). A TUSON Direclink brake controller and their trailer anti-lock module (in fact I would work with that company for full component compatibility in re brakes).

Amenities are great, but very best road performance trumps all other considerations. Arriving uneventfully is the acme of TT use.

Present hitch?

I did my home work and these were ordered from Tredit and are genuine Sendell's.

However, if the tires are specified for installation at the factory, there is just an upcharge versus a complete purchase from local sources.

True. I know prior to an option being made available, the factory used to take a new build to the service center and make the swap there. You got stuck for the full price of the wheels and tires. No trade in.

That full factory pricing for a swap to larger tires is what I was told last week for our mental exercise of getting information and creating an order for 2014 Classic 30. There is no deduction for the 15" tires and wheels. My prior pricing post above (#45) was before that financial nugget was revealed to me.

However, if the wheels and tires are factory installed, that means it is factory approved, (despite the tire size label plate). So the insurance company looses the tire size and type change as a contributory negligence argument to wiggle out of a claim in the future.

There sometimes is a method in the madness.
