Went to buy 2011 27FB, ended up with 2012!

My wife and I went to buy a 2011 27FB INTL recently in central california. We ended up getting a better deal out at the coast in Pismo Beach. The dealer didn't have one in stock so he was going to try and swap an order with another dealer one with the factory. A day later he said that he couldn't swap an order but he had some great news. He got us a 2012! He said the price would normally be about 2% more he but wouldn't charge us. I asked what the differences would be if any. He said:

Dimming LED lights
Blu-ray DVD player
Porcelain toilet
Retractable laundry string in shower
Electric and LP water heater!!

Think that was it I think, but I was excited. Only have to wait a couple months. ALso added the driver side awnings. This is our first Airstream. We can't wait to take it out!!

Congrats on you new purchase.

We just bought the 2011 27FB, the dealer was quoting 12 weeks on the 2012 and at my age, just didn't want another summer to go by. They gave us a fair deal on the floor model.

You also get a larger TV with the 2012!

Cheers, Jay

Jay,
Did you do business with Bill Thomas? If so, how was your experience with them?

Hi Chris,

Yes, Bill Thomas. I had been to a few RV dealers, and took the better part of 4 months
thrashing around with Carriage, Keystone and Heartland products, until my wife and I figured out we didn't want to drag our living room around. It took 24 hours from first site of the 27FB to contract. Just knew it was our style. I was originally hot on the FC 25FB, but my wife, was quick to love the 27 International.

BT Staff were patient, accommodating, and in the end refreshingly honest. I got see the actual dealer cost paperwork, the profit on the deal for the dealership and the profit that went to the salesman, Jessie Martin. I believe the deal was fair. For grins I called another east coast dealer that Bill Thomas knew, and suggested would not be be able to discount further to make me want to drive 1,000 miles. They could not.

As part of the delivery process, they were agreeable to have me spend the night in the 27FB on their pad to shake out any additional problems or questions that I might have. They also agreed to defer payment until after the my delivery inspection.

All in all, highly recommended. They don't claim to be the cheapest, but they are pretty darn close. They do want to an positive extended customer relationship, and they have earned it, so far.

Thanks for the report. This is consistent with what I am experiencing with them in my trade for the unit I have on order.

I'm guessing it's a 30' Classic. Well done!

I met Glen Thomas, son of Bill. He said I would be back in a few years for the 30' Classic. We'll see. Let me know, how sweet it is..............

Yes, I am going from a 25' FC to the 30 CL. It has been on order since January with no end to the wait in sight (AS says parts are back ordered) .

cms4140, we bought our first AS, a 25' FC last August from Bill Thomas. It was a good experience. I only wish they were closer to KC

What a great trailer! I wish you many great travels.

I would recommend booking a couple days at Pismo Coast Village when you go to pick it up, it's almost directly across the street from the new dealership. Then you can check all the systems, and ask questions as needed.

Chris,

I would guess, since Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts, among others, have "downsized" to AS, the sales have jumped, and the assembly line strained. Not sure if any of the parts are coming from Japan..........

It will be worth with wait!

Drew,
This is good to hear. At least you are closer to them than I.

I suspect this does indeed involve the situation in Japan.

On another note, what sort of hitching "gizmo" are you going to use?

Chris,

I'm a newbie at this stuff.............It's called an Equil-l-izer 2 sway control. BT said I needed it.
My truck has sway control, just taking their word for it until my walk-through with the Tech.
Am I getting the right advice? I had just learned all about 5th wheel hitches, and now I'm a bit lost!

Yeah, we had this discussion the other day in another thread. Especially with two small children, I think we will really appreciate this move to the 30. Anticipation is killing me though...
