TPMS Recommendation

I'm planning to upgrade my junk Marathons to the new Endurance tires and greatly looking forward to driving over 65 mph this year. That means now is the perfect time to do TPMS sensors... does anyone have a recommendation for a legit, problem free product? I'd prefer not to use the cap style in favor of something that installs internally. I also don't want to have to use my cell phone or an app. Thanks!

I've had three different kinds, but the TST ones seem the best I've had. Remember to convert to metal valve stems.

I use the iPad app and the search function is basically useless. Too many results for "TPMS", few of which answer the question.

I'm sorry as I have no knowledge of an internal system. But can tell you that I have had excellent luck with the EezTire TPMS and it works great. No problems. I would highly recommend it.

I have a Dill 1506-453 I purchased at Discount Tire along with my 16" wheels and Michelin tires. It paid for itself when it detected a puncture from road debris and allowed me to slow down, exit I-75, and replace the tire before anything was damaged. Since it is internal, the temperature sensing is more accurate, there is no stress on the valve stems, the sensors can't get loose and leak, and there is no risk of the sensors being stolen.

The disadvantage to it is the batteries are not replaceable. When they die I have to buy new sensors. 4 sensors cost almost as much as a new TST system, but I will probably continue with the Dill just because I have come to trust it.

I have a Doran. Was briefly favored by many about 6 years ago, then...poof... not sure why, it has work flawlessly and paid for itself several times over with leak/ puncture warnings. I hate that the batteries aren't serviceable and sensors are $50. I'm on my second set since 2011.

Except that it is a cap system type that you said you didn't want? I know there are others by the same company on Amazon that are internal, seen people link to them before somewhere here. Good luck friend! I'd spend a few minutes on a laptop and try to search by the brand name maybe... I'm a horrible search executor so I know your pain but I have seen it on the forums...

I was quoted around $70 for the sensors from Dill. They are now available for substantially less elsewhere.

I’m with Al on this one Dill for internal sensor system.

You get internal temp also and I don’t need a repeater either. I did run the external antenna down my truck frame and attached at back on truck hitch frame.

Some TPMS systems attach to the windshield and others to the dashboard. Some systems have attachments for both. Mine is on the windshield. The TST 507 looks like it works on the dash, but I can’t be sure from the photo on Amazon. Be aware Amazon photos can be of another model than the one sold. Never trust a photo on Amazon. Best to read more or check with TST. To tell you my model number, I’d have to find the box and can’t right now. The suction cup system for the windshield works well, but eventually they fall off as any moisture sealing the suction dries out, especially here in the desert. A dashboard system needs a smooth dashboard to adhere. Mine isn’t.

What happened with Doran was that they were accused by another manufacturer of copying their system and it ended up in court. I thought the Doran system looked very much like the other one. I don’t know the outcome of the litigation. I did have a Doran, but found it better to get another system rather than replace the sensors when they died.

We have the TST 507 with pass-thru sensors. Works great, with their repeater on the tongue of the trailer, under the propane tank cover. Just be sure you switch to metal valve stems and don’t whack them with your torque wrench!

I've looked at the TST 507 system and it looks pretty good and comes with a lot of recommendations (based on this thread and others relative to TPMS).

From their website: - "For use on rubber or metal valve stems"

So just curious why the comment is made about converting to metal valve stems?

Thanks!

You’re free to run that experiment. [emoji6] We decided it was worth the initial expense to ensure the effects of centripetal (centrifugal?) forces created by spinning the wheels at speed with dealy-bobbers on the end of flexible rubber valve stems wouldn’t be something we’d have to learn about a few hundred miles from anywhere. The OP doesn't want cap sensors. The only internal sensors from TST are now the "Band" type that strap on the rim.
TST used to offer a 507 internal, but they seem to have disappeared.
I do agree that TST seems to be the leader in this field, at least as far as customer response is concerned. They often have responded here.

Metal stems are stronger and less likely to break from the force of rolling at high speed for hours at a time in hot weather with an object screwed to them. When I bought our present trailer it had been sitting on the lot for 18 months, so new (and better) tires were a top priority. I asked the tire shop to change to metal stems, the mechanic agreed and then I forgot about it. Months later I noticed they were either rubber or had been made to look like it (highly unlikely, but perhaps a vain hope). So I didn't follow up and everything is fine. But better to go with metal.
