Putting Moon Hubcaps on New Airstream

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on converting to a 16" wheel so I can put Michelin tires on the Airstream.

Since I have to swap out the wheels, I've been shopping around.

This got me wondering if anyone has seen a newer model Airstream with mini moon hubcaps on steel wheels. Some people call the wheels smoothies.

They might not even look right since I'm using a modern tire, but thought I'd check to see if any of you have come across something like this and if it looked good.

Thanks!

If you like them, put on the baby moons and roll on.

Unfortunately they don't make a 225/75/r15 tire

I made a mock up of my trailer with what I was asking about.

I'm not digging it. For any of you interested in what it would look like, here you go.

Try black wheels instead of red wheels.
I would say blue wheels on some models from the 60's till about 2014 with blue stripes and blue awnings.
The Sendel T03 wheels with either black or silver inlays would look good on that trailer.

Its your trailer and you can do anything you like, but that's not a look I'd chase after. Aluminum rims and Michelins 16s would look more age appropriate.

I don't know where you get your information, as that is a common size tire, both of my Chevy caprices used them as did my avion a few years back..

I wanted to go with black steel and baby moons when I converted my 19 ft. Bambi to 16 inch Michelins. (I like the retro look) . . . Vintage Trailer Supply offers a black steel wheel but warns you that their Baby Moon do not fit their steel wheels . . . so I opted for aluminum. Next time I might try "etrailer".

I do have to say that a set of 15" wire wheel covers (mine has a Chevy logo in the center) do look pretty snazzy on my '72 Sovereign. Much more so than the stock wheel covers that came with the trailer. I don't have the wire wheel covers on now and somewhere I have a photo showing how it looks. The wire wheel covers came off of my '77 Avanti II which, by the way, now has full moon covers on it and it looks rather sharp as a result. I tried the full moon covers on the AS but I wasn't particularly impressed with how they looked.

I think he might have meant, Michelin doesn't make it in that size.
Because it is a very common trailer tire size.

I don't think the hub caps look good with the red wheels. On my coach with Chrome wheels it might look a lot different....gives me an idea.

Moon hubcaps

Go to speedwaymotors.com. They have 16"rims and also baby moons that will fit almost any bolt pattern. Also if you want chrome beauty rings they have them too. And as far as red rims and moons, I thank they look "Great" shows real "Old School" look. Go for it.
