My first Airstream "mod" (!)

After five years of Casita ownership and many, many 'mods,' I find that that dreaded 'mod fever' has carried over just a bit to our new-to-us 2014 23D International Serenity. Dang, this habit is hard to break.

Anyway, Linda didn't like the look of things under the curb side dinette seat; the side of the pull-out drawer and the support legs just weren't to her liking. Nor mine.

So, I built a little 'panel' from 1/2" baltic birch, drilled for lightness and to allow the subwoofer to do it's thing. Covered the panel with some vintage Klipsch vinyl grille cloth and installed it with industrial strength Velcro. I 'misted' the grille cloth with ivory Krylon to get a decent match with the rest of the interior. To our tired old eyes, it's an improvement.

Also, this week, I removed the foam from the seat bottom cushions and wrapped three sides of each with dacron batting. The cushions now are a bit 'puffier' and softer, and the Ultraleather seems to be less prone to wrinkling.

All the best,

Rob

Nicely done. My first AS mod which was to add a bottle of Jack Daniels to the cupboard before hitting the road!

Can't afford jack. Have to settle for cheap red wine in a cardboard box. Breakage not a problem! But willing to share your jack with you if we meet up somewhere down the road
Alumapaloosa in June perhaps?

Rob, now you won't be able to stop. You've opened Pandora's Box again.

That panel looks great. So under the panel there are vents to allow the subwoofer sound to escape. How does it sound like now?

The cushions look very comfy now. Might have to do the same to ours.

I am glad you mentioned the wrinkling in the cushions and a solution for the problem that makes the seats more comfortable. I would like to hear more about what you did or see some pictures if you took any.

I bought the 'Dacron' batting at Joann's... it was even on sale at 50% off. That brought the cost to do all four cushion bottoms to $40.00... not too bad. Here's the stuff I used: http://www.joann.com/soft-n-crafty-p...ckaged+Batting

The web site says "on line only," but my local Joann's store had it in stock (lots of it, too!).

I removed the foam from the ultraleather covers and did a typical "three side wrap," tacking the batting down with 3M "Super 77" spray adhesive; readily available, I think I bought mine at Home Depot.

The first five photos on this page show the three sided wrap: https://www.spruceaustin.com/the-spr...hion-remedies/

Easy project, even putting the now-wrapped foam back into the covers wasn't too hard. Of course, it remains to be seen how long the new "wrinkle resistance" will hold up, but right now, it's great.
