We ordered a couple latex mattress pads from sleeponlatex.com and are really happy with them. Cut them to fit over top the current mattress.

Be warned, the medium is quite firm. Go with whatever they suggest if you buy from them.

Also, walmart has a foam mattress that's pretty incredible for the money. My brother-in-law has one and I thought it was a Temperpedic.

Check out Technomadia. They've been trying out all kinds of mattresses and I think the last one they settled on they like. You can get them custom made for your Airstream.

We bought the Sleep Number RV and it is great since we like different mattress firmness. We put a latex topper on it from Rocky Moountain. Now we sleep extremely well in the Airstream. Wish we had done it sooner.

Walmart 8" memory foam bed for $200. Added 4" high density foam purchased from a local outlet for $96. Cut to shape with an electric knife. Now I cannot tell the difference between this bed and my Tempurpedic at home. And for less than $300!

Memory Foam

I replaced the jackknife bed in the front of my Classic and now have a futon. I originally bought the most expensive memory foam mattress. Found out memory foam is stiff as a board when it is cold. Traded it in for a 10 layer futon mattress.

When I got the Classic it had a Sealy mattress in the bedroom. This was oversize and gave us very little room to move around as well as being very high. I used my refund from the memory foam to buy another really nice futon mattress, It is a couple of inches longer than the platform, but shorter than the Sealy, It is a couple of inches narrower than the platform and a lot narrower than the Sealy which gives us considerably more walk around room.

What Moflash said. We will NOT live without our real TempurPedic. OK, so I hangs off the end a little. Big deal. We sleep well and get up without the aches and pains. No other mattress has ever taken such good care of us. We have one at home, too.

We have a Tempurpedic King at home that cost upwards of $4,000 and it gives me a back ache every night. My $135 Amazon memory foam is just right and I wake up refreshed and with no pain. Makes me want to camp more. 😀

Trumpetguy,

This happens to me at home too with my Tempur-Pedic Cloud! Try to stuff a couple pillows under your knees when you sleep. For whatever reason, this has helped my back on the bed! It's still one of the best mattresses I've ever slept on despite this. I think my $3k Cloud is just too soft for me...

Sounds like you bought the wrong mattress.

Aren't Tempurpedic mattresses too heavy for the Airstream? We are new to AS and still fine with the mattress provided but I'm sure we will want an upgrade eventually. We have a tempurpedic at home so I was worried about sleeping in the Airstream. So far it's been fine.

I don't think they are too heavy, but if you are counting pounds there are several different Temperpedic lines and some are heavier than others.

We bought a custom 9", 100% Latex replacement "island queen" for our 27FB from Rocky Mountain. I'd never heard of latex mattresses before; they're not cheap (but per the above posts, apparently Temperpedics aren't, either), but it is better than our bed at home. Very nice in both hot and cold temps. We're glad we made the investment - an Airstream is an expensive place to sleep, you oughta at least be comfortable and enjoy it!

Camping World also sells this mattress, RV Queen Radius Corners. We got ours there on sale, what a great night's sleep. And individually adjustable for her and I at whatever firmness we like at any time.

After first nights sleep on the factory mattress, I went to a local shop and bought a queen size pillow top! Wow, what a great time I have sleeping in my AS!!!

I am curious -- for those with a replacement mattress deeper than the factory 4-6", and for who also have the installed 120v outlets in the cabinetry ajoining the mattress (such as I do in my center island 28W,) what solution did you use to enable continued use of those plugs; relocate or use of a flat face extension cord set or ?

I am strongly considering a Rocky Mountain 9 or 10" gel-infused radius corner option; but hate to loose those sockets for use.
