Form over function, no thanks.

On my 2012 27FB International the kitchen sink faucet handle is a bit broken and I'm really mad at who ever designed it.

On the very top of the lever that turns the water on/off and controls temp. there's a little curved bit of stainless steel. Turns out that little arc is held on my a very short wood screw that is supposed to go into a corresponding hole.

Well mine came off, that's how I discovered the little screw. I don't know if the inner threads are worn, or if there were even any threads but the screw no longer holds, when I try the screw in the hole without going through the lower part it does hold thus I need a tiny bit longer screw.

Since I'm in the middle of a caravan it's a royal PIA to find a screw. I guess in the next town with a hardware store I'll try and pick one up but i sure wish Airstream had spec'd a more practical bit of hardware - it's form over function and i'd prefer function over form.

Join the club. I totally agree. Maybe you should put your name on the list to buy the new Airstream Class A we are designing? It is going to be "function over form" but with STYLE!

Where are you travelling? It is just the right season for the turning leaf tours?

Hope you find a screw. Can you just force a plastice or wood dowell in to make it work?

Dave

We're on the Norcal Caravan North. Started in Garberville, Ca and winding our way up through the Redwoods with visits to 3 National Parks including a 3 day dry camp at Crater Lake. Beautiful time of the year and driving through old growth redwoods with an Airstream caravan is a real hoot.

No such thing as "function over form." Any engineer knows that form follows function. In other words, anything correctly designed to perform the job it's supposed to do, without any unnecessary extras, can't help but be beautiful. Elegant in its simplicity.

I had same problem. Called the company and they sent me free replacement part. That unit is discontinued but they will provide parts for free.
