Anyone install a taller toilet yet?

We are flying up to Texas next week to take delivery of our first travel trailer, a 2011 International 27FB. I saw the thread about people using toilets on another forum, and had a question.

When we built our house here in the BWI, I specified toilets that are a couple inches taller than the "standard". I first saw them in hospitals and hotel rooms for handicapped people. We are tall people, and the standad toilets are basically an attempt to please everybody. We don't need short people to be able to use ours, so we pleased ourselves ha ha. So much better on knees and back when you don't have to assume a position that reminds you of a bad month in Pakistan.

Are travel trailer toilets the same types of toilets as you use in homes, etc? Can I buy a tall toilet and put it in without changing any other fixtures?

Toilets for trailers are entirely different than those used in a house, because they use less water than even the low flow types used in houses. They have a valve that is opened to drop the waste into the tank. They do not use the siphon action of gush of water coming into the bowl to carry the waste away. I have not seen a high throne RV toilet model but you could install a riser under the john to make the seat higher, if you wanted.

actually, our toilets don't use much water here. They use water pressure to compress air, that then gets used to 'blast' out the bowl. Quite effective. And startling til you get used to it. but now that you mention it I do remember the toilet in my last RV operated like you describe. It's been 12 years since I had a motor home. I remember, now, that I could look down through it into the tank.

Your riser idea is a good one. I can make a solid spacer out of something plastic and inert. The white plastic they make cutting boards out of, for example. Just gonna be a pain to stack it several inches high.

There is also a box like part that can raise the toilet 3 inches, PO did it for a hundred bucks at the dealer. I just took it out and installed a regular porcelain toilet. If anyone is interested in the box or even the whole take out email me, I'm sure we can come to an acceptable price as it is taking up room in the garage.

I just recently did in the MH, though I think the extra height we ended up with was from the new taller base not the toilet itself.

The old toilet had 4 studs coming up through flange at 2, 4, 8, & 10 o'clock position to mount it.

The new toilet (which has a base easily 5" taller) has 2 studs, one at 3 & 9 o'clock that come up from flange then two more at the rear of base where I had to make two new holes in the floor.

The old toilet was a Traveler (original, I think) and the new one is a Dometic, part # 32951003.

The only problem I realized after finishing was that we have a towel rack low on wall behind toilet and now if a thick bath towel is on rack the toilet seat doesn't want to stay open by itself because of towel. Easy fix...

We replaced the old toilet in our 30' Excella with a much taller Thetford model. Don't recall the model number, but they're carried in stock at Camping World.

I'm 6'3" and this one is fine. After we bought it and unpacked it in the trailer, I realized that the cabinet door right next to it might not clear the toilet when opening... it does, by about 1/4"!

Better to be lucky than smart!

I'm 6'3" and do not have a problem with the height of the original toilet in my Safari.
I sure would like to have a toilet with an elongated bowl instead of the small round one. For me, it's pretty tight getting everything over and into where it needs to be!

trailer toilets seem to come in 2 heights. in addition you can buy a base for the Tetford toilets that raise it more. check out camping world. should be able to get the toilet pretty high without changing anything else. but you do need to be sure what you want to use will fit. I installed a riser and toilet in my 25' and it all fit fine. real easy job on a new trailer. awful job on my old one to get the rusted bolts out

riser

Larry just finished installing a riser on our 89 Excella. We gained about 2.5 in. They are available at Camping World, Airstream and most camping/RV service places.

Get yourself a Sealand 511+(low profile) or 510H (standard height). Definitely worth the money. You're right, height is important but so is length.

I had a TALL Thetford toilet PLUS the Thetford raiser installed. Works great. Wife is 5'5" and requested it. We had this set-up in a previous trailer.

The toilet in our bathroom in our LYG MH already sits up high on about a 7 or 8 inch "step". Our feet don't hit the floor anyways. No riser for us, thank you.

I have been thinking of switching out the thrown in my trailer and have looked at the Sealand models you mentioned thru online pictures.
What year and model of trailer did you install the Sealand? Is it and easy swap?
I will be taking out a Thetford brand Aqua magic Bravera standard low profile and fitting one of these in the same space.

I thnk it's actually more about knees and hips than it is about a persons' overall height. One knee replacement done, another one coming.

I installed it in a '59 Tradewind wetbath. The swap was part of a restoration. It was easy, but I can't tell you whether it will fit in every trailer.

i saw another thread on the forum where someone wants to remove a tall toilet and install a shorter one.

So I refrained from posting this one there.

But I should be able to post it here, right?
