I saw that box when I had the cover off during one of my "tests" of the unit. Never looked hard at it though. The fact that none of the input or output copper tubes on the compressor are hot or cold, even though the compressor itself gets quite hot, leads me to think there has been a coolant leak. The trailer is going to a local Dometic service outlet on Monday. Hopefully they will diagnose and eventually repair or replace.

Any advice I should give to the service guys? There is no Airstream dealer within 2600 km of here and these guys will have never been in one, much less worked on one. How do they get on the roof without denting it?

The best way to tell is to have an amp draw test doe on the main compressor lead. If the unit is not drawing close to what the data plate specifies (this must be temperature corrected) then you might be in line for a new unit. These new units are hermetically sealed at the factory and have NO process valve on them like residential units, so they can't be re-charged.

Good luck!
You hit the nail on the head. The local Dometic service dealer has ordered a new unit. Hopefully it will arrive in a few weeks. I don't need the AC at the moment but will need the heat pump come the fall.

Yes... The A/C in my 25FB just does not do the trick.... it throws all the air down.... need more flow to the front and rear..... I have one problem after the next with this A/C... thinking I may need to spend some $$$$$ to get one that will work.... Don't close the bottom vent - It will Ice up and you will end up with at least one quart of water on the floor, when you turn it off...... It runs all day and night in the summer ..... even it its garage, out of the sun.... Not Good.... I think next trip out I will try the fans..... I think this would help....

Update:

Took a while but the AC unit finally arrived and the local Dometic service dealer made the replacement under warranty. As it turned out he had to order a second unit as the first one was not the correct model. Then a bit of a delay as a new belly pan had to be ordered from Airstream. I think AS took pity on me and sent the part in free of charge. (the closest AS dealer is about 2000 miles from here). Tested it out last weekend and it worked fine. (not the cooling mind you as it is getting cold up here, but the heat pump function worked great).

We are about to purchase a 27' and the sales person told me to order the optional 2nd A/C w/ 50 Amp Service if we are going to be traveling in hot climates. After reading your post, we are going to order the second AC unit for sure.

According to Airstream, they are installing a second AC, with 50 ampere service, on a limited number of larger models.
