When you pick up your new Airstream, you might want a checklist of things to look at during the acceptance wallkthru. That process is much more than a friendly "how to use your trailer" tour. Here are a few thoughts: http://www.casarocinante.com/Blog/Sp...-a-new-trailer

Happy shopping and congratulations to all you new buyers!

I started reading this list approaching my 1yr anniversary on a "I wish I would have found this sooner!" basis did in fact find one that stumped me.

"Crank the antenna up and down, turn the antenna booster off and on again."

How do you crank the antenna up or down? I've never done this.

Yo may have a fixed antenna and an outdated owner's manual.
The "crank antenna up or down" instruction is for a television antenna which can be raised or lowered. I think the newer Airstreams have a round antenna mounted in place which does not move.
The older style antennas have a literal crank on the ceiling to move the antenna up or down.
My question is this:
The crank has right there on it "lubricate gears twice a year".
Where are these gears?
Where do I lubricate them?
How do I get the lube in them?
What is the lube?

Thanks for the note on the antenna from our checklist! Our 2014 International Signature 27FB has a crank antenna. It seems most newer Airstreams now have a fixed antenna. One less thing to check, one less thing to forget when you break camp.

What a difference a year can make! Yes, I do indeed have the white UFO looking thing on top. It is, by the way, loose and seems to be weebling but not wobbling. I think I caught it on a tree branch but plan to blame it on a warrantable offense when I go back for the one year inspection. I wasn't sure if maybe there was a crank on it and I should be lowering it (somehow?) during transit. Thanks Rocinante.
