Flying solo

Hello all... I just stumbled across this section of the forums and thought I'd say hi. For the past several years my wife and I spent most of our summers in our 'stream. We were tickled to have found a great unit and enjoyed the heck out of it. In 2011 she was diagnosed with end stage cancer, which curbed our travels. After waging war against the disease, she lost her battle this spring.

As the kids and our grandbabies are in the lower 48, I decided it was time to relocate back to the east coast from Alaska. I've sold our house and shipped the household goods, except for what I packed in the twinkie. In a little over two weeks I will hook up for the last time in Alaska, and the first time as a solo 'streamer, and head south. My goal is to take several months and wander the country as I slowly make my way back to Carolina.

If you see a white Tundra with a 'stream in tow with Alaska plates... Wave or stop in and say hi. See y'all down the road

Condolences - this kind of thing leaves a huge hole for sure. Tavel safely.

I am a huge fan of the North, love Alaska and the Yukon. Once you've lived there, it stays with you forever. One of my favourite books is One Mans Wilderness - an Alaskan Odyssey

Very sorry for your loss. My wife passed away a year and a half ago from early onset Alzheimer's but she will always be with me. Give yourself time to adjust to the different life you now have. Airstreams are good for that.

Take lots of time in your trip. Your home is with you so you never have to hurry to get anywhere.

cheers,
steve

Have you seen the videos on Proenneke's adventures? I love to watch them. Dick was definitely a unique character.

I'm sorry to hear that. It will definitely take some time to adjust, but as you say, they will always be with us and I'm very thankful for that.

Thanks everyone. This will certainly be a bittersweet trip. The good news is we had 31 wonderful years together and I'm quite lucky to have had that time. I know she'll be there in sprit doing her best to backseat drive from the hereafter
