There's plenty to do here, but fair warning, this is a transitional weather time. It can be 60-65° in the day but 30-40° at night. Check with campgrounds to find out when they open, United CG and Alpen Rose are good choices. Forest CG's north of Durango will not be open yet.

The train does not start it's full run to Silverton till the second week of May, but does go half-way to a picnic area. Suggest you do some Googling or at least let us know your interests.

That is a great area. Durango, Pagosa Springs, Silverton, Cortez, there is so much to do there. Rather than list some of my favorites, go on the web and look at each area.

Re: Durango/Silverton/Cortez area in SW Colorado

Suggestions for Durango/Silverton/Cortez area:

In addition, Durango is a college town near ski resorts and national forests. From fine dining to BBQ and burgers outdoors, art galleries to craft shops, and lots of outdoor activities, there's something for everyone.

Note: We have visited all of these attractions, and we have no affiliation with them other than being satisfied customers.
