Airstreaming Alone

I am looking forward to retirement and the purchase of my first Airstream. I will be traveling alone but am a very sociable and always enjoy meeting others. Are there many people traveling solo and how are they received?

Welcome! Sounds like you've got a great attitude for this new adventure in your life. At any rally I've been to, the solo travelers are just part of the gang. Good luck in your search for the perfect Airstream.

I fulltime alone if you discount my Germand Shepards.
You will see few Airstreams while traveling which makes it more fun when you chance meet one. Most SOB owners are very friendly with the few snoobs but just kiss them off and you will have a ball.
I have been invited too diner in a $500,000 MOHO and then ask too leave a primier park in IL. by one of the MOHO because "WE wish you people (Trailer) wouldn't come in here." Management ask him too stay away from me or leave.
I prefer Primier because I spent 22 Yrs ruffing it (USMC) so I want full services like spa, pool, theater, working laundry room. But each too his own.
Many here prefer boondocking and thats great.

I too am a "freewheeler" and a "Rivette" - woman Airstreamer traveling alone. Most people are quite friendly and helpful. There are a few really odd or downright scarey people out in RV land, but you can find wierd anywhere.

Most of the time, veteran campers will gladly jump in and help you with problems. Before long you'll find yourself helping others. Be a bit choosey about campgrounds - most are nice but there are a few where it's 80% residential with folks who are one step above homeless... not a nice place to leave out lawn chairs, grills, or unlocked propane tanks.

Iwood, You'll find singles out on the road. We know of a few that migrate up to Highland Haven Airstream Park, VA in season. We share a common interest in Airstreaming and enjoy each others company for the most part. Jump right in and HAPPY TRAILS

I travel alone quite a bit. I have had only one bad experience, but hey it was there problem. Most people love to have an Airstream since it different and usually more interesting than a SOB.

I have been full timing for the last 18 months. I enjoyed it but it looks like that will be coming to an end in January. Full timing in Billings, MT is not recommended. So after 21 months in the trialer it will become a place of pleasure and no longer home.

There are quite a few "singles" in Airstreams. As Mel pointed out above, singles do very well at Rallys and are received well. The most important thing, be friendly and honest... you will do just fine! But, always exercise good judgment... safety first. Go for it!

lwood...welcome to the forums...jump right in and enjoy! There are lots of solo Airstreams out there and, yes, there are a few weird folks out there in RV land (but hey, they are everywhere!)...our experience has been that most RVers are friendly and helpful and interested in each others' rigs. Airstreams are highly regarded and are usually a point of interest in campgrounds and park...you will find folks stopping to look it over...it's fun!

Michelle, what changed your mind about full-timing? We haven't seriously considered doing it but it sounds intriguing.

-20F is the average low temp in January in Billings,MT I have a new job and will be there year round. I love the full timing thing but I just cannot see swinging it in the cold Montana winters.

I think there is a club or group of solo travelers...can someone on here help my Swiss Cheese brain? Free Wheelers? Anyway, you might try a search to see what you can find about others who travel solo--should find lots of opinions and tips there. Best wishes! ~G
