Ernest Hemingway once said...."never go on trips with someone you do not love".

And, someone you do not know very, very well....just too much close proximity for unfamiliarity, in my opinion.

I have found that I travel much differently, sans spouse ....less roaming, more returning to beloved places for longer periods of time.

It's still wonderful, and I am grateful for it, it's just different...and I do like not feeling that I have to cook or even prepare a proper meal if I don't want to.

Hemingway was right. But the corollary is, don't go on trips with someone who doesn't love you. That's where I messed up.

But at least now I'm the master of my own fate once again. And sufficiently bitter and cynical over recent events that I won't ever make the same mistake again! I'll be busy finding new mistakes to make!

Well, get back out there and go, Protag.....life is short, and you have a beautiful Interstate to take you wherever you want to go.

Protag, When it comes to people...actions speak louder than words. I know some men as well as women that see relationships as a business deal, instead of a caring relationship. Don't get discouraged, and think all are like this. You most likely will run upon ''the one'' at a rally or kayaking on a lake. Believe me, being single is way better than married and lonely. Being in love with someone who has the same interests ... priceless. Right now the Hallmark channel fills this void for me. Get your rig ready for the Great American Eclipse on Monday August 21 2:30 pm. Who knows who or what you'll see at this event.

I'm only bitter and cynical about the fact that I didn't see the warning signs sooner. I'm not bitter and cynical about the way she acted. Just like you can't fault a cat for bacting like a cat or a dog for acting a dog, you can't fault a conniving gold-digging ingrate for acting a conniving gold-digging ingrate. I deserve better, and I demand better!

Hate is too strong an emotion to waste on people you don't care about, and believe me, I'd much rather not care about her anymore than to care and hate. So that's how I'm dealing with it. My give-a-rip meter is pegged on empty in her case.

My new level of indifference will be put to the test in just a couple of days; Friday is my goddaughter's 15th birthday, and my ex is blood-related to my goddaughter, so I expect to see the ex at the birthday party. So we'll very soon see if I can walk the walk as well as I talk the talk.

But enough of that… I'm not worried about finding the right one. That happened once, when I was 28 years old, half a lifetime ago. She died, killed by a drunk driver before we could tie the knot. If it never happens again for me, at least it happened once, and that's enough. But I won't turn away if another right one comes along; I'll just be more cautious about deciding whether she is the right one.

Whew I'm glad I don't gotta worry about that stuff. My wife and I get along great, we just don't live together well so I travel in the airstream while she's busy savin the planet and it all works out just fine.

I couldn't imagine havin to deal with some stranger taggin along. I couldn't even imagine havin to deal with a pet!

Just me and the road, that's how I like it.

I haven't been camping yet with just my cat, so we'll see how it goes. But talking to a cat while I drive is probably preferable than talking back to the radio or the GPS, because at least the cat can listen— even if the cat multitasks by listening, ignoring, and forgetting all at once!

Hmm... traveling with a cat. I've been curious if anyone does that. My cat HATES being in the car... even just to take her to a vet is an ordeal. I wonder if she would adjust with time.

One does see cats in campgrounds every once in awhile, and sometimes they are even being walked on a leash.

Saw a pig being walked at Fort Wilderness, owner said it was more or less like having a dog.

Used to have a neighbor in my apartment complex who owned a Vietnamese potbellied pig. Said the same thing, that it's just like having a dog. Too bad the landlord didn't agree!

Wish me luck. I didn't have Molly (an enthuistiac golden retriever) when I travelled alone in the MH, but I'm taking her with me in the next RV. I'm sure it will be a learning experience ....for me.

Most dogs do like to travel. We go with 4 smallish ones that probably add up to the weight of a Golden. . Just takes a bit of planning. Ours think the AS is a big silver doghouse, and they treat it like home after about one day in the road. They travel in crates in the TV and sleep in another set of them in the AS for safety.
