"The TAC is what you make of it. No TAC rally near you? Host one, they will come. "

That is a Nail on the Head statement if'n I ever heard one!!!

Anymore detailed planning and it is probably a rally I wouldn't go too!

There are allot of areas outside of greenwood we could try.

Over on the "Improving the WBCCI" thread, WXBuoy closed one post with the following off-hand comment:
Quote:
So Vernon, when is the Vicksburg Aloha Shirt Invitational Luau?
Seems like I was the only one on that thread who picked up on the idea, so I doubt WBCCI is going to do it anytime soon. Perhaps TAC should steal the idea? Seems like a good excuse for a party.

I thought that was a great idea for Mardi Gras weekend (this year, that would be March 1st through 4th). Seems like a great time for a party. Partly because it would give me a perfect excuse to get out of the madhouse that is New Orleans at Mardi Gras and do something more relaxing!

With a theme (and dates?) already set, all that would need to be decided is the venue. Is there someplace in/near Vicksburg, as WXBuoy suggested?

Question A surprise Rally....

Why not just start a thread posting where you plan to camp, see if anyone else shows up.
Can't get more 'informal' than that.

What radius are you talking about? Just for Mississippi State Parks alone, I count Leroy Percy, Holmes County, Hugh White, John Kyle, Lefleur's Bluff, and George P. Cossar, all within what I would consider a reasonable driving distance of Greenwood. Add in the Corps of Engineers parks around Grenada Lake, Enid Lake, Sardis Lake, and Arkabutla Lake, and you could host a rally every month for a year without visiting the same campground twice.

Leroy Percy- ghetto- don't want to go there- nothing to see or do
Holmes County- ghetto- don't want to go there- nothing to see or do
Hugh White- ghetto- but the Corps of Engineers park at the north end of the dam is excellent
John Kyle- ghetto- looks just like my back yard
Lefluer's bluff- never got the opportunity to camp there- stays flooded (closed) a lot and they say it has a lot of mosquitoes- but Timberlake on Ross Barnett is cool-
George Payne Cossar- awesome- a definite possibility- we love it.
Corps of Engineers parks at Grenada and Enid are awesome, but Sardis and Arkabutla- not so much-
We could host a rally every weekend at 2 or 3 great parks.
A reasonable drive for me on a working day (get off at 5pm) is 1 hour - 1 1/2 hour drive- get there and get backed in and plugged in before dark.
Of that whole list we stay at the Corps of Engineers park at Grenada and George Payne Cossar almost every weekend, weather permitting.
The North Abutment campground at Grenada is beautiful- very large spacious pads- close to restaurants- great scenery- fishing-
George Payne Cossar is basically my wife's family park- her cousin is the manager and her aunts and cousins have a facebook page dedicated to Cossar park. It is a beautiful park with great scenery, full hook-ups, and a large herd of tame deer that you can feed at you trailer.
These 2 parks, North Abutment and George Payne Cossar, are good enough for us to visit almost weekly, an hour and an hour and a half from home, respectively-
Anytime you want to show up we will probably be there anyway- from about 6 pm Friday till 2 pm Sunday-
Please take my word for it and save yourself some grief...
I can wear an ugly Hawaiin print shirt and barbeque some pork at any of them...
A little further from home- say 2 hours- Timberlake in Jackson (but it is small for overnight or weekend camping- has a huge section for full-timers), Choctaw Lake at Ackerman, MS (it is also small), and Lake Tiak O'Khata ( again small) are all excellent.

Does TAC have stickers? It would be cool to have TAC stickers, maybe with MS-10 on them, on my propane tank cover and door along with my name and Airforums stickers.

Appreciate all of the capsule reviews; you've probably saved me a lot of grief over the next couple of years as I run down the list of Louisiana and Mississippi State Parks.

I'll be at Lake Lincoln State Park this coming weekend, and Natchez State Park the following weekend. If you happen to be in the area, stop by and say, "Hi!"

Poverty Point at Delhi, LA is super fine.
Jeff Busby on the Trace is cool, but no services- but it's FREE- excellent if you have a generator or the weather is mild and you don't need a/c.
Warfield Point at Greenville is OK.
I would rather go to the same GOOD campground every weekend and never go to a BAD campground-

Lake Lincoln is about 4 hours south for me- not really doable in a short weekend-
Is Natchez Trace State Park at Pontotoc? That is about 2-2 1/2 hours northeast for me. Tupelo is nearby and has some attractions. After your trip give us a quick review. I know there are some nice campgrounds north of Tupelo- one at Booneville, MS and 1 on Pickwick Lake-

About midway between Natchez and Fayette, and in the wedge between US 61 and US 98/84. Nowhere near Pontotoc. The park comes highly recommended by fellow members of my WBCCI Unit.

If Lake Lincoln is too far for you, Natchez probably is as well. Pity.
