TAC organization: Units or Regions or States?
We've been putting some thought into how to organize TAC at the local and regional level. Membership numbers have a state/region component, but that doesn't give any shape or form to how locals organize themselves.
It's important that rallies and events are organized at a local enough level that everyone can find something near them, and with great communication, people can join events far away too.
So far, TAC has been mostly self-organized or made-up as we went along. It may be that there's nothing wrong with that and that could be how we continue, or it may be that with the number of larger events, some form of local structure is needed.
What would you like to see? How do you see it working? What do you think we should avoid?

We like the open, impromtu format. That's what separates us from other organizations. If a larger event needs some structure, let that be handled by the organizers.

If you keep it as it is, in theory, then the people you get organizing/attending are people who really want to be there. Too much organization = too little fun... IMHO

I've been very happy signing up for rallies on this site. So far I have been pleased with how each organizer has done things. Each rally has been different but some things have remained the same from one to another. Fun, courtesy, helpfulness, participate a little or a lot, minimal structure. I am in favor of the "camp as we go" no meetings, pitch in and help, have fun. Keep it as is.

Personally, I'd like to see people just get together and have meals and plan their own stuff in their own way. Everyone gets what they want, no more, no less.
That said, I do worry that for the bigger events, all the work ends up being on just two or three people and after a while they get burned out.

I am at a disadvantage here because we've yet to go to an event..but you could always do sign ups for certain things. The organizers can let people know what they need help with...that way if certain people are a bit over used they can say.."Hey, I need a break.. next time."
I for one am not much of a volunteer (don't like to get in people's way) but if you ask me (as long as I am fairly certain I am capable) I will jump through hoops to help you.
ps. just don't ask me to cook anything besides bacon!

I'd love to see an easy-to-search by region format so that I can see what is going on in my area or any given area. When there are just a long list of rallies posted, it is frustrating to wade through the descriptions to find the location.
I also second the idea of focusing on the fun & friendship, not a formal 'club' meeting format.
We are excited to see AIR developing. We are new to the AS community and tend to run quite shy of politics.

It's about the only thing I can cook.. unless you want my completely out of the can, except for the velveeta, enchilada dinner. Besides my husband doesn't trust me around sharp implements. I have a tendency towards ... well... I can be a klutz!

I also want zero officers.
I do however think regions is a good idea. The reason I think this is because North Carolina is an 8 hour drive. I might not want to travel that far, but if it was in my region, I would feel more inclined to go.

I would vote for regions, that would make it a lot easier for most of us to plan, if you don't want to use the term regions why not call it areas.

We are already broken down by States in our number and I think we should just list bashes/gatherings by State and Calender dates. There is no need for regions or local break downs. You know what states you can go to in the time that you have for planning. But I would like to push for a list of TAC events somewhere in 1 area view by date and/or location. I have to have my summer 2011 schedule planned by December 2010. So last minute gatherings do nothing for me.

I think the TAC club should not define regions, but if they want to, members who share a geographical area should be able to do whatever they want. So if the Texas members (being as how we seem to be like rabbits) decide to organize their own events as a group, they should be allowed to call themselves "Texas TAC" or "TexTAC" or whatever, and the main TAC should support that.
That way, groups of individuals could set themselves up, work out their own way of holding their own events, and their own way of making members from other areas feel welcome when visiting the area.
My humble opinion.

I am putting a lot of thought into how to organize the events calendar in the magazine.
- date order
- state then date order
- timezone then date order
- some arbitrary "East" "Central" "South" thing
- your suggestion?

Sure, that's the thing, isn't it? Complete freedom, no rule books.
I mean, who is stopping the Texas folks from doing what you describe right now?
But, the minute you want to put something down on paper about how you see things being done, you immediately open yourself up to criticism from someone else that sees it differently.
As my ole daddy used to say, "We'll jump off that bridge when we get to it."
Avoid rules, and avoid heartache.
