Driftless U.S. Fly Fishing Airstream

Well, since I first suggested this in another similar posting, I thought idea deserved an independent topic to attract other takes.

I’m not asking for my fellow Driftless fly fishers to reveal their best fishing holes but suggesting a gathering of airstreamers with a common goal of getting to the water. Also interested in places to park. I’ve had a hit or miss experience in the region. Most have not had real convenient access to fishable water.

Have no info to offer, but will be checking in to learn what folks have to say. Considerable abscence of fly fishing posts, considering the number of folks who enjoy the hobby, sport, science and yes, obsession. So, thanks for posting. Pat

We are not getting much of a rise to the bug here.

How about a note on why you found some of your campgrounds less that successful. No hits? Too much wind? Less than acceptable weather? Note - none of this is interesting, but I am trying the tie on another fly and see what draws some attention from one that will give us some sport. Your turn. Pat

What's the "region?" The west has thousands of miles of fishable water; "real convenient access" is an entirely different question....

More info would help.

T.I.M. - the Driftless region is in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Since the largest portion falls in WI and I'm coming from the East, WI is my primary destination.

Pat - In most areas we have visited, we prefer public parks. These tend to offer access to fish able waters. However, in the Driftless, these seem to be not as well maintained, roads narrow, and campsites compact. I've found a few private campgrounds. They seem to have better camping conditions but fall away from waters I fish.

My hopes are two fold with this posting. First, to locate like minded Campers who like to Fly Fish the Driftless. Second, we as a community scout and utilize the great assets in this region.

I have fly fished for a while. I never heard of the Driftless Region?. Guess I will have to Google it. I spent some time in WI and MN this summer and never really found any places to do much trout fishing.

I grew up in Arkansas where I learned to fly fish on the White, Norfork, Little Red, and the Spring Rivers. This is also where my camping evolved from tents to Airstreams.

Don’t feel bad, I too wasn’t aware of the Driftless Region before moving to the Chicagoland area. But now it is my home waters to explore...

So back to the topic at hand, still looking for some bites.
