AAA, Good Sam or Something else...

In a little less than two weeks I will head out on a 600 mile drive to pick up my new '91 Excella 😄😄😄😄😄. I was just wondering your opinion on the best Roadside Emergency Service. I have had AAA on my EuroVan, but this is going to be totally different....

Ive looked at threads on this forum on this subject.....it always seems mixed...

Some will say AAA has worked great for them...some good sam...some all state even..and others will carry a couple of them for increased likelihood of coverage.

Im a bit foggy on an answer to this question myself....I will be picking up my AS in october and will soon be researching this question more thoroughly as well.

Other issues come into play...discounts...some have apps for smart phones that are helpful I think?

Im also interested about how each service can handle mechanical issues with TV in the case of a repair needed...things like that.

Good luck in your choice...perhaps some of the forum folks will come in and provide some clarity on the decision process....

I've had AAA since 1983, but added Good Sam Roadside when I got my Airstream Interstate. Given that AAA only covers towing up to 100 miles, and all but one of my camping trips have been more than 100 miles from home (and maybe even farther from a Sprinter dealer), it seemed prudent to get coverage that suits my travel style.

AAA works for me with the RV endorsement. This occurred several miles south of Torrey Utah. I think that there are regional differences that one has to take into consideration.

I just got off the phone with AAA and they told me that AAA will only cover travel trailers up to one ton.. My trailer/hitch is about 6300 lbs.. Think I'll give Good Sam a call and see what they have to say...

You're right Denis, it's a regional thing. In Oklahoma they have a 1 ton limit.

While I have GS, I have never had to use it.
Don't overlook that if you are willing to pay out of pocket and then apply for reimbursement Towing can be added to many auto policies. I think I pay state farm an additional $3.00 a half and not had any problem with the couple claims I have had

I have a mixture of service. AAA for the cars. I didn't get the RV coverage since I found that AAA of Missouri notes that RV coverage is not honored in all states. I had Good Sam for a bit but dropped it when I got my trailer insurance coverage with Progressive. Their towing rider is much less than the Good Sam coverage. Progressive has an 800 number and will send folks who have RV experience if necessary. The big thing for me is that they will tow both the trailer and the tow vehicle if the tow vehicle is disabled. No way I was going to leave the Airstream on the side of the road if we'd have to tow the van.

Only call I've ever had on the road was for the tow vehicle which needed a jump start and that call went to AAA.

I don't know of any travel trailers under 1 ton. That means they weigh less than 2,000 lbs.

Exactly Dan.. I had used this for my VW EuroVan, but it won't work for an AS...

Good sam would only tow me to the nearest a campground and the nearest GM dealer That dealer destroyed my engine after have been told not to attempt to start it. He admitted he started it and that cost me $8,000.00 after I had to go and get the truck away from the dealer. Canceled and went to AAA ASAP.

I had good Sam but when I understood, if I understood correctly, they only tow to the nearest service station or dealer I switched. So if I was leaving from the coast going inland to our home and broke down on the coast side of halfway ( no service inbetween) they would tow me back to the coast. So I switched and went to AAA RV but I am willing to hear differently and decide something different. Oh when you go to drop Good Sam or not re up see how many contacts they flood you with. They are a little old school on that way. That said some people love them and wouldn't have it any other way

Hi, we have AAA and Good Sam road side assistance. I have had AAA for a few decades and only for the cars. Before our Alaska trip, I thought that it would be a good idea to have RV coverage, so I singed up for Good Sam. My brother's motorhome broke down on a mountain in between Phoenix and Payson; Good Sam towed him home. Good enough for him, good enough for me! I haven't ever used Good Sam yet and haven't used AAA for many years.

State Farm covers " nearest place of repair" usually after 300 miles the claim is seriously examined but in most cases paid. The best coverage is after any hail damage they allow you to turn in your own estimate from an AS dealer, as the front / rear seven caps are $1500-$2000 a piece, and the two long side pieces are $ 5,500 a piece according to the AS service center ( Chris ). I speak from experience.

Yes, State Farm covered our hail damage (two weeks after we purchased the newer Airstream) completely; which happened in our yard.

I know State Farm has roadside assist as a policy add-on for a fraction of joining one of the others.

It's all about the net, though. I had used State Farm for my insurance needs for many years, and early this year they informed me of a HUGE increase in my homeowner's policy, and smaller but noticeable increases in my auto coverage. No changes, no recent claims (none ever on the house). I went hunting, and found that (at least in my ZIP code) AAA insurance for home, vehicles and the Argosy saved me about $1200 compared to State Farm. And that's including the cost of the AAA membership.

Thanks everyone.. I ended up going with Coach-Net. It boiled down between Good Sam and Coach-Net. I decided to go with Coach-Net. Just hope that I don't have the need to use it, but I feel better knowing that I have it in place. Also, for the next 3 months I have a free trial with OnStar..

Only 3 more days until I head out to pick up my AS!! So excited!!

We use Allstate Roadside Assistance. They have the smartphone app and you get a KOA membership included. We have been totally satisfied with their srevice.
