2009 Flying Cloud
How about a 2009 Flying Cloud thread. The Safari SE for 2009 has changed to Flying Cloud. As I understand the 2009 line up will be Safari sport models and Flying cloud. NO SAFARI as we know it???? Someone jump in here and make this perfectly clear...

Please buy a Flying Cloud.
Hi, I suspect, just as soon as some-one buys a Flying Cloud they will post about it. Has anyone bought one yet?

I'll buy one
I will be buying a Flying Cloud as soon as: 1) my deal to sell my condo closes and 2) I can figure out what the new color schemes are and 3) a dealer has one I want.
I like the new retro-seventies Burnt Sienna decor, and the Sea Green (or something like that) is OK, but I want to see what else there is.
I noticed Airstream home page has a link to 2009 Flying Cloud, with some pics (only of the 20’, though) and all the floor plans. Interestingly, not only is the 25’ A/B model discontinued, which we knew about, but the 25’ SS six sleeper is not there either. Accidental omission or is it actually gone?
I suspect the FC page is a work in progress, we shall see.
Meanwhile, I keep checking the bigger dealers around the US of A in search for my dream trailer (no I don’t know exactly what that is yet).

Thanks for the tip on the Airstream website, which does seem to be in the process of being updated...
One surprise: the new Flying Cloud (evidently) comes standard with Hehr windows.
It will be interesting to see whether most of the units sold are those, or the "Classic" style, with their better ventilation.

Windows
I was wondering about the windows. In the photo gallery, the picture of the outside of the 20’ FC shows the windows with the smaller opening, but all the pictures from the inside show the larger, classic-style opening windows.
I am curious about the panoramic windows at the front/rear as well. Are they now standard, or optional?
Eagerly awaiting spec’s with standard/optional equipment listed...

Apparently the photo on the Airstream website was photoshopped, incorrectly. Airstream is aware of the mistake and will correct it.
The flying cloud does not come with the Hehr windows, it comes with the International/Classic windows that the SE had.
The new 2009 Sport series will feature Hehr windows standard with an optional upgrade to the international/classic front panoramic windows.

Patrick, why doesn't Airstream just get rid of the Hehr windows?
I tried several times to order a 30' Safari Bunk with the Classic styled windows and was finally told by the factory that I couldn't get them, or wrap windows, in the Safari line because Airstream "wanted to protect the investment of their Classic and International customers and the integrity of those lines", yet less than four months later, Airstream introduced the Safari SE. I was then told by the factory that they were adding the SE option to the Safari line one model at a time and would be getting to the 30' model last...only, after waiting over a year to place an order for a 30' Bunk for that model to be available in the SE package, I discovered in April '06 that Airstream had already discontinued the 30' Bunk model from the line.
Now, Airstream renames the entire Safari line (except the Sport models) and revives the Flying Cloud name leaving the Sport as the entry model line up (which is what the Safari was prior to the introduction of the SE package). Now they are going to offer the Classic styled windows as an option on their base entry model? What gives? Why don't they just do away with those hideous Hehr windows and make all the windows the same and make them all "Airstream" windows. They are, after all, unique to Airstreams as far I have know.

The website is undergoing updates and changes. Sorry for the mix up on the flying cloud photo. The image will be updated soon enough (end of day?)

I was doing some checking around on the 2009 Flying Cloud and I found out from a sales rep at Sutton RV in OR. that the colors being offered will be:
Midnight Sun
Stratus
Sea Green
Sienna
I wish the A/S website had more info on the specs, as well.
