Wide Body Production?

What year did Airstream begin the "Wide Body" configuration? And what is the actual size differential of wide body trailers compared to those built prior? Thanks

hi chas'

depends on the YEAR in question...

many threads attempt 2 answer this "how wide has a/s is ?" riddle,

here is 1, seeeee da picture and read post #8.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...ody-21844.html

so keep in mind that the CHANGE in shell/upper radius happened prior 2 wide bodies...

and REALLY alters the feel inside with MO HEAD ROOM...

and the LOOK of these tubes outside.

and as i recall, when the upper corner radius was changed, production ALSO went to 3 piece ribs

while older rounder traylas had 1 piece ribs.

cheers

Looking at a 95 25ft Excella in an internet ad. I've not been able to get an answer from the seller and the pictures that have been provided don't help much. Went to the spec section of Airstream.com but no luck with measurements. Thought this would be an easy question!

it IS an easy question,

it's the answers that are difficult.

so NOW u have taken a WIDE OPEN question and narrowed it 2 one year and length...

which is a much betta question.

95 has 3 piece ribs AND pushed out corners...

it was also the calendar YEAR production of w/bodies started (i think)

so DEPENDING on the date of production code it could be 1 or the other width.

get the VIN# and post it or contact j/c.

or read here...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f258...ight-9065.html

or here...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f258/

and don't forget to wack the THANKS button for the answers here.

they take a LOT more effort to post than questions...

even if they are wrong answers...

cheers

I was told by a dealer (so it must be right?) that everything from '95, and 25' and over was wide body.

However, we have friends that have a '95 28' that is not wide body. Go figure!

Mine is a '94 with the three piece frame and pushed out wide body style corners but it is still just 8 feet wide. It is a 30 foot Excella.

Take a look at the info at Airstream:
Airstream, Inc :: Specs - 1990

It looks like 1995 was only wide for 34' trailers.
1996 was wide for everyone.
