Vintage International rosters?

Ive looked and cant seem to find anywhere, rosters of trailers that attended past rallys... In particular, Id like to find out how many Int. rallys our 1958 trailer attended. (#918) I KNOW it was at the 1960 in Colorado...but would like to know if it was elsewhere also!

I do not believe that either Airstream, nor WBCCI kept records of International Rally attendance beyond the total number of units present. Think about the logisitcs of recording and retaining that information when International Rallies had had between 500 and 4000+ participating units each year. There realy was not benefit to either Airstream, nor the club of recording individual unit participation.

We are lucky that they have retained some record of caravan participation, but then that was the major focus of the club in the early years.

Some people buy the stick on plaques at the Internationals they attend. That is the only unofficial record of International rally participation. Some members keep a collection of past directories. The 1964 Directory, which is my oldest, reports that 918 was owned by Archie Lleuenberger from Los Angeles, Ca. They are likely long dead by now and we can not be sure they owned your specific trailer.

Good point. I have seen several vintage Airstreams that had plaques from International Rallies and other events on them, typically stuck to the inside surface of the door within a door. Sometimes there are signs that a few fell off and were lost over the years, but from the shape and sequential position of the glue spots you can guess that maybe they were intervening years of the International Rally.

I think we have speculated in a different thread that the Leuenbergers were likely the original owners of #918. At least they are listed for that number in my 1960 Membership Directory.

According to club records they did not start reassigning numbers until after July 1, 1959. Up through 1960, Club Directories were published at the end of the year on the cover. (They were published at the start of the year on the cover starting in 1962. There was no 1961 Directory.)

Since the Leuenbergers definitely were assigned #918 at the end of 1960, the chance that someone else was assigned this number in July 1960 when the International Rally was held are slim (but technically are not zero). And we know, from photos evidence, that #918 was at the 1960 International Rally, so my money is on the likelihood that it was there with the Leuenbergers. But at this time we do not have absolute proof. If someone could show that #918 was assigned to the Leuenbergers in the 1959 Directory, that would just about be absolute proof that the Leuenbergers owned it during the 1960 International Rally.

If the 1958 Directory showed #918 assigned to the Leuenbergers, that would prove they were the original assignees for that number. Of course, it is still possible that someone else bought the trailer new but never joined the club and then sold it to the Leuenbergers some time before the 1960 International Rally. Unless there is an original bill of sale for the trailer with the original owners name on it, there will be no way to prove or disprove this possibility. I think it unlikely.

Thanks for the info. Its my understanding that Leuenbergers were friends of the Byams and Schwamborns...so, Im guessing that the trailer changing hands may be a stretch... I still havent found out HOW/WHEN this trailer made its way to WI...i have it tracked back to Baraboo, WI in 1984. Cant seem to find any info on the PO...Im sure hes gone now also...
