Twin beds on narrow body Airstreams?

In the last 15 or so years, has Airstream built a trailer model with twin beds that was not the 8.5 ft. "wide body?" Something with twin beds that's about 23 feet long and no more than 8 ft. wide is very appealing. This cures heavy tongue weight and overall trailer weight and the need for a 3/4 ton truck.

Has Airstream ever made such a thing?

My 1995 25ft is not a wide body and has twins. Tongue weight for a dry, empty trailer is listed at 700 lbs. Empty trailer weight is 5300 lbs.. I do not use a 3/4 ton. The prior owner did not either....I don't recall ever seeing a 23 with twins.

I'm personally not aware of any Airstream under 25 ft with twin beds, and my 25 matches perfectly with my 1500 RAM truck.

Another perfect match, our 25 and Ram 1500. We just carry what each is capable of, which is substantial. If the tongue weight is too heavy, adjust the load and/or equipment. No problem.

This very helpful input. Thanks.

For those towing with a 1/2 ton truck, did you add a transmission cooler?

My truck is 1/2 ton. It had a tranny cooler added when it was new off the lot before my family started towing with it.

That's a must especially in mountain areas. If you have the tow package ( tow/hall mode) it's already included.

My 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 came equipped with the factory towing package. I just turned 50,000 miles on the vehicle and two months ago I had to replace the transmission.

I climbed a hill and as I was pulling into a rest stop I saw a warning message that I had never seen before, "High Transmission Temperature". This was the middle of the night and I planned on getting a couple hours rest, so when I left later, I went about 1/4 mile and found that the RPMs started racing, but the truck stopped going. It would work in reverse, but no forward gears. Had it (and the 25' Airstream) towed to the next major town and had the transmission replaced, $3,000. Working fine since then.

I tow my 1977 25' AS (twin beds) with a F-150 1/2 ton (tow package) EcoBoost 3.5 V6. Book states max loaded trailer wt rating is 11,300 lbs. and pay load of 3060.

That's a remarkably high payload for an F-150! Well done.

23 ft with twin beds

The 25 ft Airstream is 25+ft bumper to bumper and the body is only 23ft long. Check it out. There is plenty of room for twins.

Yes. Just one of many AS design problems. Gut and fold down in front of front and rear windows. 1958 Caravanner 22'. Nobody at AS thinks outside of the box.

Airstream made some 22' trailers with permanent twins in the 1950s and maybe a very few rare 22' Safaris with permanent twins in the very early 1960s, up to maybe up to 1963 or so. After that, 22' twins were where the long dinette benches did double duty as the twins at night. This dinette twin setup was actually the much more common 22' Safari twin setup from 1960 or so onward.

From 1969 to 1979, the 23' Safari could be optionally had with permanent twins.

Since then, Airstream gas only offered double beds on 23' and smaller trailers and permanent twins only on Airstreams 25' and longer.
