Smithsonian NASA Airstream

Last week my family went to visit the new (4 year old) Air & Space museum at Dulles.

Just so the vacation wasn't a complete waste, we were sure to visit the Apollo MQF!

Couple of interesting observations.....

Rumor has it that the "Hornet+3" sign was made by the ships carpenter and placed over the airstream logo. Obviously true, as seen in the famous pic's.

But, on display it is a piece of acrylic mounted above the airstream letters. Not correct, but made me happy!

Also, there is a catwalk right above the trailer. The roof has a good sized dent in it. My wife told me that must be where a branch landed on theirs!

Dulles International Airport, southwest of Washington DC, about 25 miles.

Cool museum, but I still like Wright-Patt (dayton) better!

There is a nice article about the NASA Airstream MQF in the latest issue of Airstream Life. It's worth checking it out.
