Pre-War Airstream Serial Number Tag

This is a fun tag.

There was a mistake made on the dealer part of the tag.

It is bass sheet, silkscreened with black paint.

A classic!

Very Cool! I've not seen that one before...thanks!!!

I think the lazy "1" adds to it's charm ~ or do you think it was intentional to represent a "-" as in July -1941?

Fred Coldwell and I believe that I do have the plans.

Later on this year he plans to copy them.

If they aren't they are very early Airstream blue prints.

Several Caravanners at the Breckenridge Rally drooled on them, this only makes the prints more interesting

Why not? Fred will be able to hand-copy the prints, and "draw" conclusions.

Good stuff. I enjoy the history of "things". How that specific model came to be and who was a part of it and what were the driving factors that got them there. What were the obstacles they overcame and what did they realize later that they could have done differently. I know, my poor wife shakes her head when ever I get interested in a new whatever, knowing the book acquisition budget will get blown up again and I'll be heads down for weeks at a time . Ah, I can be SO predictable.

Is it possible that "DLR" stands for "Delivered" not "Dealer"? In that case "7-1941" would make perfect sense. Maybe the workman only had a set of standard number stamps and had to improvise the "-".

The date would be important for registering the trailer, an unsold unit built late in the year could be sold and registered as the next year's model. This was common practice at the time.
