Well, your Airstream is a 1958. #3375 that I previously mentioned was first assigned in 1960
. #8515 was first assigned in 1963
. You might look to see if there are signs of an earlier number under the 8515 because many Airstreams joined the club when new. The highest number assigned in 1958 was #2290.
But regarding #8515, this first directory I have that shows it is 1966
, which reflects membership as of 12/31/1965, when #8515 was assigned to Tye & Charlene Stermer of Riveira Beach, FL. They are listed as having participated on caravan #33 - Eastern Canada Summer 1963
. The Stermers are last isted in the 1971 Directory with no additional caravans. I have no proof that the Stermer's owned your you Airstream, but it certainly is possible. Given that they were on a 1963
caravan, I assume they were the first members assigned #8515 in 1963.
#8515 is then unassigned in 1972 and 1973. I have no 1974 Directory, but it is then reassigned to E Jack and Roberta Williams of Santa Ana, CA in 1975. Roberta is last listed in the 2001 Directory and is listed for several WBCCI caravans along with Airstream company caravan 111 - Western Mexico-Guatemala Winter 1977. It is possible that the Williams owned your '58 Flying Cloud, but I'd consider it doubtful that it went on all their caravans due to the lack of amenities compared to newer Airstreams. But that is just a guess.
#8515 has been unassigned since 2001, so either the Stermers or the Williams (or possibly both) owned your Flying Cloud for at least part of the time they were club members.
Given the initials "WMB MNB" on your trailer, I can only guess that either that owner was never a WBCCI member, or else they were a member (under a different number) before 1963. (I wouldn't rule out the Bakers, as noted in my earlier post, since they were from the same state as you, although that is not proof.) That's all I can tell you.
In any case, enjoy your vintage Airstream!
I see you posted photos while I was typing my response. Since your Flying Cloud is a California made Airstream. I'd tend to discount the Stermers from Florida, who likely would have bought a Ohio made Airstream. Thus the Williams seem more likely to me. I can't even hazard a guess as to when the initials were added other than to note that I would think later owners would have removed that plaque, maybe lending credence to the idea that that owner never was in WBCCI. But in the end, it's all a guess.
