history of an Airstream?

I just bought an Airstream and it has/had the red numbers. I am wondering if the previous owner could contact me and let me know the history of this unit. Things like where it came from, rallies it might have attended, repairs, if any, and why, etc.
The numbers are 9261
Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you.

The 1990 Directory says that number belonged to Linus Cortez from Opelousas LA. Since WBCCI frequently reuses number, this may not be the same trailer. You would have to know what year the numbers were attached to the trailer. Last year that number was not assigned to anyone, so you could apply the Jackson Center to use the same number, if you chose to become a member.

I believe the only way to be certain of the history of a trailer is to trace the titles back. It's certainly more difficult than the WBCCI trace, but can be done, and once completed, you would know exactly who owned the trailer, where they lived, and how long they owned it. The problem with doing such a search is it most likely involves several states.

That wiill work for somewhat recent titles. Varying from state to state they periodically purge their system of old titles.

I would imagine you might run into some privacy laws that prevent the Division of Motor Vehicles for releasing information on who previous owners were. WBCCI probably would be your most user friendly way to go .

Maybe you can find back issues of the member lists. They come out every year, and list WBCCI members by number, and numbers by member name.
The only thing is, you will have to locate the back issues, as they are only issued to members, and only show member info for that one year. WBCCI will "hold" a number for a year after dues expire, in case the member wants to renew. If your trailer is a 1986, you could check, for example, 1987, 1989, etc.

History on this one too

Can someone with a roster tell me if this is a worthwhile historical traveler? It does say Wally Caravan.
By the way, I think Pee Wee posted a picture of Wally with his sailboat in the builders yard. I cannot find it again and would like to see it again....search function did not work....Pee Wee>>>you out there?
Thanks.

It is a 1986 Excella 32. It was bought last year in NY and the couple I bought it from only used it this summer while building their cottage. They got it from an Auto dealer (I think)
I will have it home next week and I know the book is there with it. That might help get history.
Thanks all for replying.

Airstream 9261

The first use of the number I can find is in the 1964 Directory, it was issued to B. Hoffman in Tacoma, WA.

In the 1987 Directory 9261 was assigned to J. Shields, of Wimberley, TX.

No record of the number in the 2000 Directory.

The mystery of numerology!

Hi,

Hard to say with that number. The lower numbers have been re-issued so many times. It depends what years the owners (#5742)were members. With that being said,in the 1970 directory it lists the owners of that number as participants of 2 caravans.

Maritime Provinces-Eastern Canada-1968
Western Canada-Summer-1969

Welcome to the forums.
The red numbers on the front and rear of the trailer are the owners membership number in the WBCCI (Airstram Club). Not all Airstream owners are members of the club and not all members of the club put the numbers on their trailer.
