Historic Airstream Video

I came across this 1969 AS video after watching the AS Classic video another member suggested. It's impressive! My apologies if you've already seen it a 1000 times. This is all new to me. Anyway, enjoy.

Enjoyed it, thanks for posting. And those poor helpless women of the '60s. They could look good in the boat while he fished, could cook and be pretty, and could be "locked inside the Airstream when it was -20 F outside" and apparently not die.

How times and attitudes have changed, thank goodness.

I am not sure the test driver was having fun either. I bet he was glad when that day was over.

BLAST from the past for sure...ive seen that one before, but fun still to watch. That whole "its -20 out here and +72 in here" leaves me incredulous still.

Wish I had set of those coveralls to wear while I work in my trailer. I wonder if they're for sale in the Airstream store? ;-)

I had never seen this, thanks! Wow, what a mighty mite. Too bad they do not use the all clad aluminum still. I wonder what tensile strength the current AS aluminum has and if that little woman could twist it up.

I almost died laughing when I read your post mccrosti. She was all contorted with bubbles all over herself. She did manage to free her arm though. All I can say is that RVs have come a long way in the luxury department. Airstreams today, IMO, are not luxury but more sparse and practical with a touch of mid century modern looks. Other than that, they seem to be more run of the mill travel trailers- to me. Compared to the Luxo Class A models with glossy tile, residential fridge, washer/dryer and kitchen with island and lounge with fireplace, they are plain but still they seem to be better suited to travel.

I was at the factory a couple of weeks ago. Did not see any coveralls for sale but they do have the factory worker bee shirts that they used to wear. They also have the Airstream logo patches to add to your own coveralls. I do not think they have much of a dress code as the workers seem to wear pretty much what ever they felt like. Mostly jeans and T-shirts. Only commonality was that all wore safety glasses and most ear plugs. It is very noisy on the factory floor.

That was cool. I like the test driver not wearing a seat belt, or just a lap belt at most. Was that Inland Andy? Didn't he used to test drive Airstreams??

I do not believe that OSHA was around back then to dictate to workers and management how to do their jobs.
Disclaimer: Do not get me wrong. OSHA is a good thing that saves many lives every day.
