FOUND!! Wally Byam's 55 Cruiser - 1956 European Caravan trailer
Has anyone pulled these apart successfully? I think the knob can come out but I'm worried I'd ruin them. Modern replacements just don't look as cool

I couldn't get mine apart. I considered seeing if a gun shop could 'blue' them as an assembly but never followed up.

Looks like the knob on the slider was peened into place by the five or so dimples on the back.

I dropped mine in a bucket of carburetor cleaner for 24 hours and they came out slick as a whistle

good to know, I'll try soaking! Joe I was thinking careful grinding might free it up but I'm worried I can't reattach.
Interesting thing, they drilled 3 holes for the back mounting location, the middle hole held an unbucked rivet which kept the slide bolt from dropping out and jamming up. Hard to show without pictures. I'll post those later.

I'm going to clean them up first and see how they turn out. I think the slide bolt itself might be brass.

If you have to grind the shaft off to get the knob off, consider having it put back on with a gas torch and brass rod. An alternative may be TIG with silicone bronze. I'd check with your welder first for his thoughts.

I've got a magazine rack
This is a pic before I cleaned it up, but now it looks shiny and new, and I'm not going to reinstall it in my refurb. If you PM me with your address I'll send it to you, no charge. Happy to know it's going to go in such a cool trailer.

I’m interested in the valve and one of each of the types of fittings. Let me know what you’d like for them and I can send money your way!
Thank you!

A pal sold a race car...
$2000, car and spare parts. $3000 for just the car.
$100 for each part but if you take it all, it's free.
PM me an address.

I like your reasoning. I would think Scott does too.

I really do appreciate the help! Purists be warned I will not be replicating the wiring methods.
Pouring rain today. Found a couple minor drips but incredibly dry inside so I’m insulating the street side and running new 110 and 12 volt wire.

Thank god, I hope not. Found the same thing rewiring my 1954 Liner.

We received more rain in the last 24 hours than we’ve had combined since May. I knew I’d have some leaks around the door since it’s not finished up yet but found a few small leaks that I took care of today. Mostly missing or loose rivets. Here’s one in the end cap I took down today.
With all the aluminum rot I found from moisture I decided I didn’t want fiberglass in the walls so I went with the foil bubble insulation. 3 layers on the ceiling 2 on the walls. I had a space heater going this morning to take the edge off and
All the wire except the water pump and water heater (which run down below) have been roughed in.
This afternoon I’ll rivet in the rear drip cap then can insulate the rear end cap. It’s in great shape compared to what I dealt with up front.
Now I need to order motors for the roof vents. Both are 110 but I want to run 12 volt so we can run them if need be without hookups.
Anybody know a good source?

Scott, we found 12v motors at etrailer.com. They had a VentLine
BVD0128-00 12v that I needed for the sidewall kitchen vent. Don’t remember what the CFM was, but felt it was more than adequate. Their motors are interchangeable for roof vents. We also purchased the fan blades that fit their motor shaft. Good luck, Bubba

Looked at that, do you have to use the plastic fan blade? Since I'll have the skylights cut those fan blades are front and center. Inland RV has one on their site but once again the shaft size is wrong and they sell a plastic fan blade.

You may not like what my solution was but take a look at post #119. They also have a 2 speed in the same configuration. This has a different noise but with a reversible fan it makes it very comfortable inside.

FOUND!! Wally Byam's 55 Cruiser - 1956 European Caravan trailer
Huston we have a problem. I pulled apart the front inside cap to start making copies and realized 3 bad panels are compound curved. Anyone with English wheel chops want to be hired out to make me replacements? They are shippable.
I do have some 63 exterior end caps I can cut them out of but I had hoped to save those in case our 63 Around the World Caravan trailer had problems down the road
