Great work. I am truly amazed at the speed of your work and the quality. I don't think that I would ever have even known to prep the aluminum like you did before installing the front window.

Thanks guys. I finished one jalousie today. Wildfire smoke has me to the garage for the rest of the day but I can get the last curb side jalousie hardware fabricated and ready to install. Ended up using 1/4 glass, seamed on all 4 edges. Will mask the frames, seam seal, than acid wash and condition the surrounding metal and prime/paint so eyebrow can go back on soon.

Silver Trailer Supply carries the drip caps I bought locally, but the ends curve differently and don't fit right around the bulky jalousie frames. I'm going to order from VTS and torch off the paint.

Are there any folks in the Menifee, California area that could look at a Solex bike for me? It's almost an exact match minus the optional tank. It looks cosmetically in great shape but that's all I can tell. I have not budgeted for this at all but hoping I can figure something out but can't afford another money pit project right now. It's on Craigslist for a grand. A good friend will be down in the LA area in the first week of November with a trailer he could bring it back in.

Thought I'd bump this to the list again in case anyone is in the area and can help me out by looking at it. I'd like to make sure it's legit before spending the money.

Well while I ponder the Solex I took advantage of not quite so smoke filled skies and removed the rest of the cabinets and bathroom. I'll reuse what I can but it's pretty rough.
Oddities
The tub is vacuum molded plastic, with aluminum sides. Someone painted it with latex paint but with some soaking then pressure washing it seems to come off.
The black tank is a stainless tank. But has a couple odd things.
1. It has no vent. It never did. I can't imagine that working well on a black tank. I'm going to have to figure a workable solution.
2. On the bottom in the corner of the tank there is a spot where there looks to have been some type of 1/2" pipe going into the tank. I'm guessing a flushing out line?
3. It looks like the original drain location was changed in order to be installed. Not sure if the design changed or exactly what happened.
Overall the frame isn't bad. I haven't ground anything down yet, just a preliminary cleanup. I'll pull lower skins tomorrow and cut bolts and take out the last bits but looks like I have one outrigger that's the victim of a tire failure, one behind it slightly bent, and one with a crack to weld but otherwise in fair shape

Today has been all about closing things in. Front roof vent is in.
Patches were made and installed to repair cracks over the door. A hole was drilled at the end of each crack. Then a plate and backer were installed. They will go 1/2" above the eyebrow flange but only crazy tall people will be able to see that and it's what it took to repair the damage. With the added outriggers at the door I'm confident this issue won't happen again any time soon.
Then I removed the eyebrow again, finished stripping paint, repaired the little chunk gone by one of the screws and it will get etched primed and painted along with the skin above the door.
I ordered new drip caps from VTS only to learn that the originals are 1 7/8 deep and Typical are 1 3/8. Sooooo repair time.
Before....
During...
After...
They aren't perfect but once cleaned up a little more they'll look pretty darn good considering the likelihood of finding new ones is nearly impossible.
Not pictured but I also finally cut down the shaft for the replacement H-20 lock and installed it. I finally can lock the door.

Not much progress with my work schedule this week but I did get the door eyebrow repaired and reinstalled, the refrigerator door painted, weatherstrip on, and it's drip cap on. Also finished glass in the curb side jalousie windows, cut them in and reinstalled the straightened eyebrows.

Al does it strike you as a 70's era toilet? Not sure if it's original or if it was a later update

Hi
Still looking for a 1955 solex and found a few.
Are you still looking or did you buy the CA one?
Shipping to the USA seems to be a challenge. Do you have any contacts in this business??
Kind regards

I just installed a new one in my trailer. That's why I recognized it. If you look at the label it was made in Canada. Possibly for sale in Canada since has both French and English. There would also have been a decorative shroud around base of toilet to make it more attractive.

FOUND!! Wally Byam's 55 Cruiser - 1956 European Caravan trailer
BIG DAY!!!
Our welder finished up the last outrigger and a minor repair further back and I was able to get the last two sheets in. Edges are bolted, more elevator bolts on the way.
If you read awhile back you saw the aluminum hangers for the belly pan. I spent a few hours this afternoon and bend the new ones up out of scrap 2024 just like the factory did I'm sure.
Tomorrow the last new panel starts, a 12' long lower panel that goes from just in front of the wheel well back to the back bow.
Once that's riveted in place then I can finish up drip caps, door, and belly pan edges all hopefully before the rain and cold set in.
. New spacers

This morning there was no wind so I decided to go ahead and pull the street side lower panel. It was creased at every bow and cross brace. Our theory is that snow came off a roof and hit it at some point.
Lots and lots of drilling. Panel out
Mocked up for drilling
Factory missed on the window cut out. No wonder that window leaked so bad. The rivets had nothing to hold on to. Fixed that on the new panel.
Going back in.
All the cross braces in.
Next step is the get the new belly pan tucked in then a bunch more rivets.

I find it interesting that this trailer had splice in the side panel. I'd seen such in 30' vintage but yours is shorter. Great looking work!!!
