I'm getting closer to finishing my other project and getting it on the market and am using my couch time researching and looking for parts. Good friend gave me a nos Bargman power inlet I gave him a few years back. Does anyone have the cord end they'd sell? I know I could upgrade to modern but would rather not if I can help it!!Click image for larger version

This is an amazing find, Scott and Megan. So glad it landed in loving, capable, history-loving hands. This one certainly falls into that field surgeon mentality of first, do no harm -- and if you keep the pace and attention to detail you've shown so far... it'll be a museum piece that people can learn from and appreciate for its unique place in history.

All the best in maintaining your enthusiasm and enjoyment - if it were mine, I'd have already been making romantic overtures to Jackson Center by now.

New toy. It's not an exact match. Wally's was a 56, but we liked aspects of the 55 better, and we wanted a 4 door with kids, so today we bought it. Good surviver runner, work to do inside and out but strong runner ready for the fun projects and am looking forward to teaching my son how a real car is worked on.

Yes, well sort of, I need to put a new compressor and condenser in it but I've been working on those parts sourcing already. This was loaded, gold emblems throughout, electric 4 way bench seat, electric windows, A/C is the headliner vented (each seat has it's own louvered duct in the headliner much like an airplane). Auto dimming headlights, power brakes, power steering, and more cigarette lighter locations than all our other vehicles combined.

Watch the gas station attendant find where the filler port is located on this vintage Cadillac. That is good for many minutes of laughter.

GREAT find!
I'll take a look to see if I still have the Plug & Receptacle but may not after deciding to upgrade the electrical.
I repaired my step without much welding. I was able to cut off a set of the pins to get the step out to straighten it and the arms. The rails had to be straightened & did need a little heat to do that. I replaced the pins that were cut off with Shoulder Bolts and Bushings. Now the step can be removed again if needed.
I have the original axle still laying around if you need some parts for yours, mine was hydraulic brake away. I decided to go with a new Dexter Axle with electric brakes

"Watch the gas station attendant find where the filler port is located on this vintage Cadillac. That is good for many minutes of laughter." My guess is a taillight. We had a '56 Chevy, but I've slept too many times since then to remember whether it was left or right.

"What's a gas station attendant?" I think it was Oregon, several years ago, that had outlawed self-serve gas stations. They wouldn't even let me open the gas cap!

Darn. I DO remember--it was on the driver side on a '56.....and the light flipped up quite high to get the fill nozzle in...

Plagued with a trivial memory...full of pointless trivia. I owned a '59.

In case anyone's interested. New Jersey & Oregon are the two states that do not allow self service gas stations. In NJ you may see self service for diesel only IF the pump is located on a separate island away from the gas pumps.

Yeah, I know. Something you really didn't know you needed to know. But now you know.

You can legally pump your own diesel in Oregon but the attendant is usually there before you can get the door open. I get out and watch to make sure it's diesel going in.

I try to keep Airstream and WBCCI history documented as correctly as possible and am learning new things all the time, so I need to correct a couple of my previous comments that I previously made in this thread, but have since learned were not exactly correct:

Actually, I have now learned that numbers were only reassigned on caravans 3 & 4 and caravan 2 apparently did not use numbers on trailers. Starting on Caravan 5 (Mexico 1955), numbers were not reassigned. Caravanners with previous numbers were able to reuse their previously assigned number, but first time caravanners got new numbers higher than any previously assigned number.

I am aware of a story that on one of the early Mexico caravans, Wally had to cannibalize his Airstream for parts to repair others trailers and he apparently abandoned his trailer in Mexico, but I forget which trip that was, maybe the first to Central America that went thru Mexico, or maybe a later one.
I have since learned that the little 15' Cruisette was used on the first caravan by the advance scout, not Wally himself. Wally used a larger, but unidentified Airstream on that caravan. I have also confirmed that it was on that first caravan that Wally abandoned his Airstream during the caravan (unsure if that occurred in Mexico or some Central American country) after stripping it of parts to repairs the trailers of other caravanners along the way.

Here is what I have, may not be the best but much better than nothing! Here are some pics wanting to show that there is a piece missing on both the plug & the receptacle. They were fully functional but I decided to upgrade to marine grade electrical.
If you want them just pay for shipping and they are both yours... send me an email.

How far do I go? There are 3 compound curved end cap segments with damage plus the flat segment #4 that has the beads in it on both edges.

I've found a craftsman in Oregon that builds doors, airplane parts and is great with aluminum according to vintage trailer people around the region. He figures he can make me new caps, but of course I have to pull it all apart.

I had some orange stripper left over from another job and figured I'd clean it up some and get a better idea of the damage. Looks to be acid of some type. Many layers of paint remain but I'm going to need a few (a lot) of cans of aircraft stripper to remove all this.

The alclad is gone and it's paper thin with a couple holes. I'm worried that just taking it apart the caps will break.

So I'm wondering if I'm crazy or stupid, or maybe blindly optimistic.

Being that this was and presumably will forever be repainted I'm wondering if I can find a suitable epoxy product to layer on the back of the cap to build up strength then simple fill or patch the couple small holes then prep and paint.

Thoughts anyone?Click image for larger version
