Tonight #6472 sits in front of my shop. We traveled from St Louis to my town. The trailer towed wonderfully!

The current condition of the trailer is varied. The frame(s) are generally solid, Axles are shot. The interior isn't too bad, but all soft goods are gone. Windows and all openings need work and parts. The skin, well, looks like a 54 year old trailer that has been around the world!

I will be posting pictures and descriptions here and on a dedicated facebook page. Find a link at Dan Bihary soon on Facebook.

Dawn has chosen to christen the trailer "Marco Polo", as a unique name is deserved.

Some historic photos!

The Granddaughter of the Paul and Ruth Ross graciously provided me with some unique photographs.

Included is a family photo the day Paul brought the Airstream home from the factory.

Other images included his short jaunt to Alaska with his second wife Thelma.

I'm thinking I would have liked the guy.

I played a minor role in this trailer's history. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Hi DanB and Dawn,

I know you're sitting around the house not doing anything! When you have time please post pictures of Marco Polo and the work you're doing. I realize you've posted some on Facebook but if you can find the time to post on Air Forums that would help us non-Facebook users.

Is this the thread where you plan to post further updates? Or, have you started a new thread?

Thanks

I've been lax on keeping the documentation up to date, sorry!

Just sitting around, yea,,,,,,,,

These pics were about 15 minutes apart. Current thought is "What have I done???"

As I'm going Airstreaming for a few days, I thought I would give a quick update.

For the last week, I've been removing the subfloor. I've got about 5 feet left. I think I now have a system figured out. Ugh. I guess it's good to know for the future.

What I have found is that your circular saw set to just a hair under 3/4" is your friend. Cutting with this tool is easy. Sawzalls thru elevator bolts, not so much.

My "system" is to rip two cuts north/south straight down the middle about 3 inches apart. Chances are you will miss all the bolts. Now remove that woodto expost the exact location of the crossmembers.

Now rip directly east/west on top of each side of the steel crossmembers. You should now have panels falling apart with a little prying. The thin plywood strips on top of the frames will easily snap or cut away from the bolts with the sawzall.

Now the bolts are exposed and can be easily cut off with a grinder.

This is a lot of cutting, but I've found it easier than manhandling the floor.

We are off to Lancaster Ohio with NOVA and other WBCCI clubs this weekend. I need the break!

Took a major step today! Two coats of POR-15 will be on before dinner. Next week will be floor installation.

Exciting times!
