Babbling Brook - an Airstream relative?
""Built in 1949 by the Budd Co. for the New York Central Railroad as a 5 double bedroom, buffet, observation lounge and operated on their famed streamliner the New England States which operated between Boston and Chicago. Operated by the Pullman Co. until 1957 when the car was retired and sold to Canadian Pacific Railroad and renamed Seaview. The CPR operated the car between Montreal-Ottawa-Toronto, CPR retired the car in 1969 and sold it to the Quebec Mining Company and they renumbered the car to #847. During its ownership under Quebec Mining Company the car was used as an official car for QMC & US Steel executives. QMC sold the car in 1986 to a private owner in the United States and since the QMC railroad was landlocked the car had to be shipped by barge to live rail and then shipped back to the U.S. Once the car arrived back in the U.S. it was rebuilt to Amtrak certification and has been an active car ever since. Babbling Brook is 100% operational and ready for service, stocked with sheets & china all you have to do is get on board and relax! Some of the cars mechanical details include: Stainless construction, current COT&S (8/20/11), current PC-1, serviceable wheels (all turned 8 mo ago see wheel report), 27 pin lines. Full service kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator & freezer. Full HEP, main reservoir, tube diaphragms, H couplers, tread comp shoes, APEE bearings, certified for 110 MPH, B clearance (due to waste tank but can be modified), 30KW Onan generator, 260 gal fuel tank, 8 ton A/C unit, 450 gal water tank, waste water holding tank, shower, FRA Type II glazing, emergency windows, emergency lights, sleeps 8, seats approx 10-20 people for day service, truck mounted cylinders.""

Sorry you are going to have at least a 350 w/Hensley and extensive modifications by that Canadian guy.

Commodore Vanderbilt (de facto owner of the NYC) was a great fan of Wally. Remember the trailer built especially for him?
As for towing it, Three muscular guys can shove one of those passenger cars around on level track. I've managed to move one by myself a couple of times, but I didn't move it very far, like 20 feet or so.

OK, assuming there were a bunch of these made and this wouldn't be sacrilege.... how cool would it be to take one of the shells of these, shorten it to 40' or a little less, and make a travel trailer out of it? I think that'd be awesome!

Aside from the fact they are about ten feet wide and weigh between 75-100 tons, as well as being too tall for highway travel, it would be pretty cool.
It is interesting to note the steel wheel and steel rail cause so little rolling resistance one determined guy can move one.
