Anyone recognize this?

This unit resides at a hot springs in Oregon. I am no vintager, but I am curious.

I will say that the near Airstream in the middle appears to be a California built 1962 22' Safari. The Airstream to the right appears to be a California built 1962 26' Overlander. Too bad that they appear to be left to deteriorate as they sit with their tongues on the ground. I hope this is just the "as found" photos before restoration.

P.S. I believe the trailer on the left is a Silver Streak.

The Safari in the photos is a 1964. The drip caps are a dead give away...
The trailer to the right is a 62 or 61 Overlander. Ohio built I think...
The one to the left is a 67 or so Silver Streak.
Actual serial numbers instead of the faded WB numbers would let you know for sure.

If you blow up the last picture, the VIN is 22T-S1069 which would make it a 63 California Safari. It also shows a build date of 6304.

I stand corrected on the trailer in the center - I should have noticed the drip caps that are clearly 1963+ - not 1962. I never thought to blow up the serial number plate.

The other trailer has 1962 and prior drip caps and appears to have 1962 and later California wheel well openings (at least to my eye) which are slightly different than 1962+ Ohio wheel well openings, so I stick to that opinion.

That is my 62 Overlander built in Jackson Center with those same straight wells and same battery box...

Richard how did you blow up the photo? I tried to see the serial number and could not make it out. Did you have to move it to some where else to blow it up? I would love to know your trick.

Frank - My opinion is just that, so I could be wrong and you right. No harm in differing.

Both factories produced trailers with wheel wells that were peaked in the middle from 1959-1961. Both produced trailer with flat topped wheel wells after that. The difference is that the radius on the corners at the front and rear of the flats differed between the two factories at least for 1962 & 1963 from what I've seen. The radius' were little tighter for Ohio and a little bigger for California. The difference is subtle, but there. Also, we can see the 1963 Safari in the photo has the wide space tail lamps that were only done (with possible rare exceptions) in California. It also appears to have the bigger radiused wheel wells, like the Overlander.

And regarding the Battery box on the front - I am pretty sure they were used on trailers from both factories, starting as early as 1958 for "International" models, and extending into at least early 1962 in some cases, although other 1962's have the built in battery box on the street side. Perhaps one factory switched battery box designs before the other in 1962, but I don't know those details.

Pee Wee has a very interesting report written in 1962 about the differences between the two. It is a fascinating read if you get the chance to see it.

Seeing those tongues sitting on the ground like that bothers me. It gives them a very dejected look.

I haven't that report seen it yet. I got some Powerpoint presentations on a DVD from the previous VAC Historian, Fred Coldwell, but haven't had the time to look them over yet. If it is among those files, I'll be eager to take a look.

Having heard Fred talk to some of his power point presentations, I can say they really are riveting.(pun intended) I suggest you find some time for those, they are very good.

It probably is on your dvd. I saw Fred Coldwell give a presentation at last years vintage resto rally on the subject.
I couldn't find a good pic of the street-side of my Safari, but this will show the differences between my California '64 Safari and the one in the original post.

You only need a photo manioulation software, Frank. Then you can do lots of silly things to a photo.

Blow it up, change shape, lots of stuff...
