Airstream Stats - 70% still on the road?

Perhaps a silly question that is all too easily answered...but here it goes:

How do we know that 70% of Airstreams are still on the road? How is such data collected? Is it really true?

Also, how many Airstreams are sold (new) every year about? And how many are thought to be in circulation total?

Perhaps there is a good book for light reading on the history of Airstream while I wait around anxiously for my first AS to be built and delivered?

Happy Friday folks!

I do believe that of the 70% there would only be maybe 40 % still in use 20% being rebuilt and 10% sitting in fields and storage lots out of commission.

Ah, thanks! Also, thanks for asking, PharmGeek. I wondered this too.

Ford used to say that 70% of all Model-T cars were still on the road. I always wondered how they come to that #. Must all be locked away. I don't see them.

I was told that production is ramped up to maximum which is around 800 units this year. They made a mistake of adding additional lines several years ago and quality went down. Having said that, my 2013 25FB International was build in June of 2012 over nine elapsed days (June 19 to June 28). New units are squirting out in seven elapsed days.
