Two Suggested Books

Here are two that I've enjoyed:

Airstream Living by Bruce Littlefield and Simon Brown

Airstreams Custom Interiors by David Winick

Best

Google "Airstreams" at Amazon....lots of picks! Also, how about a subscription to Airstream Life magazine, a quarterly publication? ps - love your thinking out of the box, undies & sox are mundane.

Airstream Books?

While these aren't necessarily recent pulbications, they are good reading and books related to Airstreaming that I have enjoyed:

The Long, Long Trailer, Clinton Twiss, copyright 1952
-- Recently released in paperback (2011)

Airstream, The History of the Land Yacht, Bryan Burkhart and David Hunt, copyright 2000

RVS and Campers: An Illustrated History, Donald F. Wood, copyright 2002

Trailer Travel: A Visual History of Mobile America, Phil Noyes, copyright 2002

Silever Palaces, Douglas Keister, copyright 2004

Airstream Living, Bruce Littlefield, copyright 2007

Wanderlust -- Airstream at 75, Russ Banham, copyright 2007

Ready to Roll: A Celebration of the Classic American Travel Trailer, Arroll Gellner and Douglas Keister, copyright 2003

Trailer Tavel Here and Abroad, Wally Byam, 1960

Fifth Avenue on Wheels, Wally Byam, 1953

There are a number of others out there, but these are among my favorites currently in my library. The original books about Wally Byam Caravans of the 1950s, 1960,s and 1970s are becoming more difficult and expensive to find, but are excellent reading.

Good luck with your research and investigation!

Kevin

Here's one no one has come up with yet:

"The Sporting Road - Travels Across America in an Airstream Trailer --with Fly Rod, Shotgun, and a Yellow Lab named Sweetzer"

It's more about hunting and fishing and the sporting life than about Airstreams, that's for sure, but it's a good read.

Questioning Attitude?

I know this is an old thread but the question I have is more closely related here than to any other thread I can think of, so here it goes. I was researching the book "Wanderlust Airstream at 75" that I was sent back in 2009. It was a gift from the Airstream Product Development Team for participating in a survey called the "Scout Product Development Survey". A great read and full of information on the history of Airstreams. While I was researching I came across an eBay auction site selling Aluminum Limited Edition Plates that were made up to show the edition number for each book. They were originally made to be applied to a special aluminum riveted cover for the books. I am wondering if anyone here knows if these covers even exist. If they do where might I get one for my book. I e-mailed Airstream Marketing Department last month but never got a reply. I am guessing the were not involved with the books so have no interest in replying to me. If anyone has any insight in this matter please reply. Thanks so Much, Ed

The "Limited Edition" of the Wanderlust -- Airstream at 75 was offered in the Airstream store, but I am not aware of whether it was offered with the limited edition aluminum cover outside of the Airstream store. The book with cover is mentioned about mid-way down in the following link.

Good luck with your investigation!

Still looking...

Thanks Kevin,

I was going to call Airstream on Monday to see if they could shed any more light on this issue. I will call the Airstream Company Store and see if they can supply an info on availability. The book I was sent has the Dvd and a Limited Edition number so I think it was part of those that were from the original stock. Where the Aluminum Cover is now Who knows! Perhaps they can tell me if any (from back when they were originally made) might be today. Ed

There is a book i would like to have called "Wanderlust- Airstream at 75".
It is (or was) less expensive from Airstream than from Amazon or Ebay.

Another recent one is Phil Caputo's "The Longest Road." This is non-fiction, about his Airstream tour from Key West to the Arctic Circle to find "what holds America together."

"Airstream Memories" by Brunkowski & Closen is about collecting Airstream memorabilia. Published by Schiffer.

Also I would be remiss if I didn't point out that we carry new copies of both of Wally Byam's books in the Airstream Life store ("Trailer Travel Here & Abroad" and "Fifth Avenue on Wheels") so you don't have to pay big bucks on eBay for old copies.

I like "The Collected Adventures of Tin Hut" by Jim Snead, too. This is fiction (humor). It's every Tin Hut story we published in Airstream Life over the years.

What happened to the Tin Hut stories? I always would read them first thing.

Alas, the author decided he was done with the series. There's still always a possibility the Huts will come back someday, but no plans at this time.
