African Caravan Aux Vehicles - Scout, Mechanic, and Photographer
Here is a prelim writing talking about the Aux Vehicles used in Africa.
We did have a refrigerator, gas only.

Thanks for sharing, and again, I am always amazed at the material you seem to pull out of thin air  . It must have been quite an experiance for two young men to be out in the vanguard in such a unique truck camper.
I wonder what a modern version of an Airstream truck camper might look like. Heck I would even be willing to sacrafice my truck as a test bed for such an experiment  .

Do you recall the manufacture of the three trucks?
I could not tell if your scout truck was a GM or a Ford product - what about the other two one tons - were all three the same manufacture?
Also, it appears as if the individual trailer tow trucks were of a mix of manufacturers - Dodge Power Wagons, International TravelAlls and pickups, Fords and Chebbies - I think I could make out both vans and pickups. Have you come across any photos (or manufacturer blogs) highlighting the tow vehicles?
Were any of the manufacturers deemed superior to the others by the members of the caravan? I owned a 3/4 ton TravelAll manufactured not long after the famous caravans, and I know how easy it was (is) to snap a rear drive axle shaft with the transfer case/transmission in double low and the front end was not getting any traction.

Could someone Please translate this info to a more lo-tec way of seeing it.
I have no idea of how to open a pdf file, and I have tried many many times with no success. Thank you PeeWee for all of your historical insites to the earlier years of Airstreaming life.

The Scout and Mechanics truck were Chevrolets. I am not sure about the Pete Turner's rig.

You need to install Adobe reader on your PC. It is free and you can get it here: Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions

Scout Vehicle Story
Thanks for the reply Richard. But I have tried that and my machine will not do it. Ever since I went to firefox to get rid of the wavy guy. I have tried downloading plug-ins I have tried doing all the steps I am told to do, all of that, nothing but confusion and disapointment. I can no longer watch vidios or u-tube. Firefox has to be the worst browser I have ever tried, dead end steps everything sucks about it. I don't want to redirect this thread to my inabilities with computers, so could someone cut and paste this Scout vehicle info or something so that a computer idiot like me can see it. Please Please Pretty Please.

Try this,
Save the document instead of opening it.
Once you have it on your PC, open it.
That should open it in Acrobat reader and not your browser.
