50th Anniversary of the Wally Byam's African Caravan

If you want to read a few lines and see a few pictures about the African Caravan in 1959 - 1960 go to this site.
Conversations with Dale Schwamborn - part two

Recently posted is a letter, I wrote, from Asswan, Egypt to my parents. It tells about crossing the desert, the new cook in town and more. IT is a PDF file.

Hopefully as there is time I will post other letters from Africa to Mom and Dad.

Priceless and awesome. Too bad the world is a place where things like this can't be done again.

Pee Wee, your letter from Asswan is such a personal glimpse into your life while on the caravan. Thanks for sharing all these details.

The "Top 10", huh. Were you missing the American radio stations?

You can listen to Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves or Bobby Darin. What choice will you make?

I'm sure someone was hurting to hear some young 50's Elvis when they were done with the trip.

On February 2nd, a few days from now, "the music stopped." Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richy Valens went down in Clear Lake, IA...the day the music died.

Chantilly Lace, La Bamba and Don''t Fade Away...the songs live.

50 years have gone by since the crash, and how many readers remember 45rpm records?

Right next to my computer desk is my 1958 Wurlitzer jukebox with 100 45's (200 songs) on it. the newest one is mid 70's, most are late 50's and 60's.
